My new R-1.....before and after
Day 1 of ownership and very happy
Day 81 and not so happy
A highside crash at Deal's Gap North Carolina kind of spoiled the party. The bike faired better than I did receiving only cosmetic damage to easy bolt-on parts, and is already better than new. I, on the other hand received two broken hands and a broken left heal from which I am still suffering the consequences. The cast below was painted by my friend Danny (There's a link to his website on my front page) who is quite the artiste` no? Hey, a guys gotta have something to smile about with a new bike in the garage and a cast on the foot.

In my twisted little mind, a crash is just an excuse to do something a little different with the bike......so I did. A little internet shopping netted me a clean used set of '99 Red/White bodywork. Those of you who know your R1s know that the Red and White got flipped from '98 to '99. So I used the '99 upper parts and '98 lower parts, then had a spare tail painted red to match (both years had white tails) and used tail decals from a 2000 to make an all red R1. A Remus titanium high mount slip-on really cleaned up the look of the rear end as well. Here's what I ended up with.
