Brian was born in the rich farmlands of central Indiana, and while still in his youth the Drake family relocated to the Texas Panhandle. Although the memories of his childhood were so remarkably different, the contrast of the glistening green cornfieldes of Indiana to the flat-top mountains on the Texas plains were images which would make their mark in his work.

Travel seemed to be a constant source of inspiration, and after serving as an officer in the cruise ship industry for several years, the exotic beauty of landscapes and seascapes became the passion for his painting.

Brian is a self taught student of the natural color cominations from early morning to twilight, Brian's acrylic oncanvas compositions invoke a variety of emotions. Light sources are natural and flow softly to portray not only a particular image, but also a mood. The primary purpose of each piece is to translate that particular image, but also a mood. The primary moment to an enduring reminder of that which is always just out of our reach; peace.

For Brian, that peace comes from visiting a place with a brush and palette where some of nature's most spectacular shapes and colors combine to bring back a simple moment.

He enjoys painting from life or from photographs and can pull out color combinations to suit a particular individual's tastes.
