VISIT WITH A VIKING

NATIONAL EPPIES AWARD FINALIST for BEST CHILDREN'S EBOOK PUBLISHED IN 1999

Reading has always been a great love of mine. As a teacher, I tried to instill that same feeling in my students by telling them,

"Reading is like taking the most fantastic vacation you can imagine-- for free!"

In my children's adventure books, I make use of many reading skills such as word repetition, meanings of words explained through context, high interest, and phonics. Having taught hundreds of young students to read over the years, I picked up a few "tricks" along the way and incorporate them in my books. Whether your child is a slow or an advanced reader, my books will stimulate and encourage their reading interests and skills.

My children's adventure books in the SWEPT AWAY STORIES series are now available in paperback through this web site and my ETSY shop,
A School Marm.

Currently, three books are available.

VISIT WITH A VIKING

SECRET IN SCOTLAND

JOURNEY TO JAPAN

So, what are the stories about?

In VISIT WITH A VIKING, two young boys, Johnny and Bruno, are magically transported back to the days of the Vikings while visiting a museum on a school field trip. The boys have to overcome their fears and language barriers and learn to work together in order to find a way back to the present time. During their adventure, they face Viking warriors, a hungry wolf and even a storm at sea.

In SECRET IN SCOTLAND, Johnny and Bruno joined by classmate, Jenny Elizabeth, are whisked by a magic broom to an ancient castle in modern day Scotland. There they learn of an ancient curse and a treasure stolen more than 300 years earlier. In searching for the treasure, they learn more than the value of gold and jewels. They learn that the worth of a man is not measured in how he speaks or the type of clothes he wears.

In JOURNEY TO JAPAN, Johnny, Bruno and Jenny Elizabeth experience culture shock when the magic broom lands them in the middle of Japan. They meet Koji, a Japanese boy their age, and practice several interesting Japanese customs. They even become involved in a school sports festival with sumo wrestlers! Johnny learns that people may often look alike, but that everyone is an individual.

Each paperback book also includes an art project that corresponds to the story. The price of each book is $5.95 plus $2.00 for postage and handling (per book). Click on the link on the left side of this page for ordering information.
