Here are a few poems I've written in the past year or so.
Distortion
Soft sheets of sound
deafen me
I wake to darkness
thinking of you
(and the ache
in my left side
that's stronger now
than it was)
Conscious thought
unravels
to reveal dreams
Dreams unfurl
to reveal
reality
Stars
The crystal hills
shine
in the absence of light
night
falls upon everything
all
in sight
The bottomless river
basing in the brilliant
darkness
calls out
to the sky
And the sky
relentlessly coveting her
solitude
does not respond
Many Dark Nights
The dark horses run by
Don't topple the pedestal
She's still on it
Do you see her eyes?
Blank stares
from thoughtless passerbys
They are the cause
but what's the effect?
Can you see her face?
I'm blind to everything now
everything but the man behind her
Don't turn away
It's time to hurt
to cry
Because they left her
in darkness
but she still doesn't know it
She thinks black is light
and red is the enemy now
but so am I
Do you hear me complaining?
Lemonade
We planted the seeds
years ago
when our youth stretched out before us
like a never-ending highway
The tree has grown tall and beautiful
You were beautiful
back then
Do you remember?
Those hot summer days
when we would sip lemonade
and talk of our plans
for the future
or maybe the past
Now a leaf falls off the tree
like you fell last September
into a pile of golden leaves
which enveloped you
in their hazy darkness
while I stood by
and laughed
Contradiction
Pieces of nothing
fall from below
Beautiful ugliness is
wrapped around you
And you stare at me with
those dark hands
Trying to make sense of it all
It can never make sense
She's gone, she's here
Everywhere I turn
she isn't
I want to feel her touch
in my air
Watch her float
down concrete rivers
And she will
when she no longer can
Nurturer
She calls to them
they follow
Leaving their mothers
for a better life
She offers protection
and sanity
She speaks to them in their dreams
offering words on silver platters
which, when accepted, take away the hurt of
loneliness
She teaches them
to think
Imagine
and create worlds of sheer
crystal
And they learn
quickly
