A Visit To North Central Florida

This page is full of graphics and may take some time to load. It's worth the wait!

Join me for a visit to the *real* Florida.
If you are expecting South Beach or Ft. Lauderdale, you'll need to look elsewhere.
The part of the state where I live is draped in spanish moss. Cold, crystal clear springs bubble out of the ground and there are rolling hills scattered with ancient live oaks.
North Central Florida has an abundance of spring-fed lakes and rivers.

A view of the River Styx
And you thought the River Styx was a myth!
A closeup of the green vegetation you see in the pictures.
The River Styx connects Orange Lake and Lake Locloosa
The area is the winter home of thousands of Sandhill Cranes.
One of hundreds of the crystal clear springs found locally.

THE FINE PRINT: The graphics on this page were taken on January 11, 1998 with a decrepit camcorder and digitized with *Snappy.* The exceptions are the file photo of the springs and the B. Nottingham photo of the sunrise. All the other photos were taken by the author of this page and may not be reproduced without her written permission. © Laurel Ladd Ciotti
