While travelling in 1998/1999 & living in LA, London & Berlin I read a great deal & got to think about some very powerful ideas.

I think the best idea of all was that no matter what happens, choose to see the good in it. We always have choice to look for the good or bad, and even better we can always find good in any event.

 

When I start describing this stuff, I often get an image of a Simpson’s episode where Homer is trying to hold back his anger after hitting his hand with a hammer or is it the scene where Bart has turned him into an animal or something, and he is trying his best to be pleased about it so that Bart will not further his suffering! But it is true. You have complete choice on what you choose to focus on. You could focus on something you like or something you don’t. There is probably at least one of each aspect or element that you could place your attention on right now. Further to this with any object or event, we can choose to see something good or bad in it. We can choose to see it as a good or bad thing. From that decision we build ideas and facts to justify our position.

This idea was also taught to me by a Muslim friend at the time. Whatever happens is good because it is the will of Allah.

Affirmations, visualization & meditation, all these & other things move us forward to where we need to be. The key idea that Louise Hay teaches in learning affirmations is to replace any old negative thought with the opposite thought. So if you think ‘I’m too fat or thin, change that thought to ‘My weight is just right’ or ‘My weight is getting better everyday’. Think about the negative thoughts that go around in your head, and without giving yourself a bad time for those thoughts, simply start saying the opposite thought. The more you repeat the new thought & stop saying the old one, the better your life becomes. The key is repetition & consistency.
