Roger Daltrey's Biography

Roger Harold Daltrey was born in Hammersmith, West London, (or Shepard's Bush depending on which bio. you read) on March 1,1944 He is the only son of Harry and Irene Daltrey. Roger has two sisters, Jill and Carol. He attended Victoria primary school, followed by Acton County Grammar School where he met and befriended fellow pupils, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle, banding together three of the future members of The Who.  (Daltrey has been credited with founding The Who while still at Acton Grammar School.) When Roger left school he became a sheet metal worker. Little did he know how short his sheet metal career would be.

Roger Daltrey was the toughest  of the members of the Who. He was persistant, whole-hearted, and buff. This toughness made him some what of a leader for the group in the earlier years, but it also caused a significant amount of friction between him and the other band mates (particularly Townshend). The arguments between Roger and the band became so bad that just before "My Generation" was released as a single, he was kicked out of the band. As soon as the song soared to #2 in the U.K. charts, however, he was taken back.

Roger was married to Jacqueline 1964 but they divorced in 1968-69. While together, they had one son, Simon.  In between his first and second marriage, he had a son by the name of Matius, with a girlfriend.  In 1971 Roger then married current wife, Heather.  They have three children together - daughters  Rosie and Willow,  and son Jaimie.  Currently, they reside in Sussex, England.

Roger's Acting
The following information is from "The Who: Maximum R&B":

On April 22, 1974, Ken Russell's film version of "Tommy" went into production. Roger seemed to be the natural choice for the part of Tommy, although David Essex was at first going to do it.

Jon Landau wrote in Rolling Stone ". . . Roger Daltrey, in the major part of Tommy, makes a sensational screen debut. He comes off as a natural, at ease in front of the camera, remarkably unselfconcious." The rest of the review for the film is otherwise uncomplimentary.

Ken Russell signed Roger to star in his next production "Lisztomania" before "Tommy" had finished filming.

Roger was more familiar with "Tommy" than else on the set but he was new to acting. He told Barbara Charone in Crawdaddy: "My idea of acting is never to act, just go and fucking do it. I really went in at the deep on this one. I'd never been in a fucking school play. And I was on the third day on the set, Ann-Margaret, Jack Nicholson, and ME! And I thought 'What the fuck am I doing here-scumbug Daltrey?"
