TO: ….
Dear Madam / Sir,
Seeking
position as Trades Assistant / Labourer
Regional
I want to start a new career in the resource and construction industries, building on related experience.
For many years as a child, teenager and adult I worked alongside my late father (John Joseph Jones) as his 'off-sider.' As he was a multi-skilled tradesman I gained informal trades assistant experience in an number of construction areas including concreting, carpentry, site preparation and general labouring. We also spent countless hours working on the mechanical repair of vehicles.
The knowledge thus gained was reinforced in vocational training courses at high school. These included courses in technical drawing, the theory and assemblage of petrol engines, and woodwork. Metal work included machining, and oxy-acetylene and arc welding.
Through many years of experience with my father I developed the skill of always thinking ahead about what the tradesman will need next. I have a curious, inquiring mind and I'm eager to refresh my memory and learn more.
My excellent written and oral communication skills have often been commented upon by friends and work colleagues. I win people over and make friends easily. These and many other skills were developed in my work as a teacher and in a volunteer telephone counselling course. Team skills, when I worked at a senior high school, were revised and updated in a TAFE course in 2002. I have always been able to fit in excellently with my work colleagues.
Returning to the role of trades assistant or labourer is my first step in developing a career in the resource and construction industries. I've had a number of leadership roles and I look forward to opportunities for further career advancement. I'm industrious, reliable, level-headed and resourceful.
I know from my work as a full-time night time taxi driver that I can easily cope with night shifts, and my versatility means I can also perform a range of office duties. I'm fit and healthy, both physically and mentally, and over time I hope to become a key player on your team.
I will enjoy any training programs you may have. I'd be keen to upgrade my HR-B truck licence and get other tickets.
I am able to attend an interview
in the Karratha / Dampier area, where I am currently
residing. Note that I would also be available for fly in / fly out from
Yours faithfully
