It has
been quite a while since I last wrote something in here. Sorry guys, I'll try to update
this page more often in future...
OK, what happened? A lot, too
much to tell, but there was one thing I really wanted to show all of you. On May 16th I
received this really nice e-mail from a guy I've never met before and I want to share this
one with all of you (and yess, I did ask the writers permission to use his e-mail on my
website). Why? Because this e-mail shows that there are other ways to do things. Ask for
something instead of just taking it.
"Hi!
I don't usually have much
time to wander around on the web, but about once a month I take a Sunday off and just
meander about, looking for -- well -- whatever neat stuff I find, I guess. Most
sites are rather dull, but when I find a neat one, I stop.
This morning I found you.
What an beautiful site!
Your layout is inventive; your artwork is exquisite!
Umm... now about that
artwork. All of your pictures would make wonderful desktop wallpaper
for Priscilla (I know she'd love them too) and one in particular (Captured) seemed
just perfect, but there was one small problem: they were in the
"no-right-click" zone.
Actually, there were two
problems. I couldn't really see them well enough. You see, when away from
home, I pretty much live on Priscilla and her screen is rather small (she's a small
laptop, after all) and what with the small screen and the less than full-screen-sized
gallery, it was rather tough to picture exactly how Captured would look, so...
just for a moment...
I right-clicked on it.
Now don't go ballistic and
beat me or anything like that! I wiped out the copy I made! But I did get to
see how a full-sized Captured would look as wallpaper, and it looked fabulous!
But it really is immoral to steal hand-done individual creations (of any type)
so...
May I have a copy?
Please? Please?
(Let's see -- can I suggest
reasons why you might choose to offer me a present?)
Reasons:
1: It's my
BIRTHDAY. (That's actually true.)
2: It's my first
experience asking for presents from a strange woman -- well, other than my wife, but then
she knew what she was getting into -- and first experiences should always be good ones.
3: Priscilla really did
love Captured. She felt that it symbolized the tension/isolation inherent in
a close man-machine relationship. (I thought it just looked beautiful, but I've
noticed that Intel products have a tendency to over intellectualize.)
So --
Are you convinced? May
I have a copy of Captured? Just for Priscilla's wallpaper? "
Guess what!? I replied him
with an e-mail telling him that this e-mail made my day and that he & Priscilla could
use 'Captured' as a wallpaper. Best thing of all, about a week later he sent me an e-mail
back to thank me for this great birthday present.
