Delores Chronicles
Told in: Third-person omniscient narration.

Features: Map, message tree, Delores's Castle

The Delores Chronicles are a lot of fun to read. It's the rollicking adventures of Delores the witch as she travels to various countries with her boyfriend Stinglehoffer the vampire, his best friend Baron Andrew (who later becomes a vampire), and his pregnant wife (not to mention Stinglehoffer's ex-girlfriend) Baroness Ashlia. The trip is very interesting- there's humor, love triangles, magic, and more. There's about fifty-two episodes to read through- which is a good thing, since nothing new's been added in a year.

Features: There's a map of OZ (the characters' home country- it's a small section in England), a message tree for AOL users, and Delores' castle (which has info on Delores). There's a Stinglehoffer's Castle on the map, but there isn't anything there.

Open Books
Told in: journal entries

Features: can e-mail characters, message board (The Pages In Between)

I thought their ad line was great- "When seven friends' lives get out of control." I liked that their site had a book theme. I liked how the character bios worked (each character's bio consists of the other six's opinions of them). I liked some of the shared histories in the site).

So why is this site not so great, in my opinion? Well, I love it when the soap makes me feel like the characters are real. Journal entry sites are the best at this. However, this site falls a little short of it. Journal entries are a bit too short, and most of them never said anythig interesting. If there's a plot (remember, "When seven friends' lives get out of control"), I haven't found it. The only memorable entry I read was a touching one by Dani about her old school rivalry with Jon. Other than that, this soap is lacking in emotional impact. It's been dead for a year.

Features: Message board.

University Center
Told in: Journal entries

Features: Mailing list, photo albums, extra writings by cast, message board, information on college and college life, can e-mail people, Alumni Desk

I first started looking at University Center (real live people with aliases from The College of William and Mary do this site) and liked it. If you've ever read University Center before, a lot of the former participants have graduated (but you can check the Alumni Desk on occasion to get post from them), but two old cast members remained (Allison and Julie). Some new members were added also. I like the real-life aspect of the soap, and found everyone's comments on school and ex-boyfriends to be interesting and told with personality. In short, this site's getting a good review! Yay! A few comments I would like to make here- if you're a person with a huge prejudice against sororities/fraternities, don't come here, because they're very popular at W and M. The site is now dead (I got it confirmed from DJ Dave).

These three sites are done by the same company and all have the same features: a games page and a newsletter)
Toons
Told in: 3rd person omniscient narration

Last spring or so, someone from this site (Nigel?) e-mailed me asking for his site to be reviewed. I sent back that I couldn't get the thing to work, but would check it out. See, it's FINALLY up!

Anyway, I liked this one a lot, it's damn funny. If you like Roger Rabbit's mix of humans and Toons, plus any Warner Bros. cartoons, you'll love this place. The action takes place on a world called Mirth, made up of several odd cartoon lands where everything is run by the Apex corporation, and things start to go wrong... I highly recommend reading this one.

Mazeworld
Told in: Journal entries

This one's a sci-fi story of four people who are magically transported to an odd place called Mazeworld, and you must get through the extremely complicated maze in order to get back home... however, nobody's actually ever SOLVED the maze. I wasn't caught into the story as much as I was with Toons, but then again, I haven't even gotten to the part where they enter the maze yet. Did like the detail of having Nessie living in Nexus (a city there) with her own bar and grill! Anyway, try it.

Burning Rage
Told in: Journal entries

Our narrator is one unfortunate fellow. He's had a curse put on him that whenever he gets angry, he starts to burn people. This, naturally, destroys his life...until another one of his kind gives him a mission: find others like themselves and see if they can handle themselves or not. If they can, give them the same mission. If not... then you'll have to kill the person before they can kill more people. And thus the journey begins...a haunting story.
