The free CheetaChat client for Yahoo! Chat has some advantages over using your browser (you don't even need to open your browser when using cheeta) including a much larger chat window (screen shot) and automatic reconnection to any room you might get disconnected from.

CheetaChat also includes extras like blended multi-color text, file transfer, macros (ascii art), emotions, *sounds, voice chat and *avatars. Avatars are icons that appear next to your name in chat (see screen shot). I've started making some and have posted them below.
Instructions for saving and using the avatars are right below them.

* TO SAVE an avatar: Place your cursor over the image and right click on it. A menu box will appear - click on "Save Image as..." (Netscape) or "Save picture as" (MS Explorer). A box will appear giving you a choice of where to save the image. Save it to the avatar folder in Cheeta (by default its C:\ProgramFiles\CheetaChat\Avatars).
Next - register the avatar at ** http://avatars.cheetachat.net Scroll down to "Upload Your Avatar Here" and follow the instructions. If an avatar has already been registered just rename it to register it (example- saturn.jpg change to saturn003.jpg).

These are all .wav files so any Windows PC can play them offline by clicking on the file name.
TO SAVE: Right click on the link then click "save link as" (Netscape) or 'save target as" (MS Explorer). In the small window that appears save to a new folder you can name "Sounds" (or whatever). If you want to use them in Cheeta - save to the Cheeta sound folder (usually C:\ProgramFiles\CheetaChat\Sounds). These aren't standard CheetaChat sounds so only people who have the same sounds can hear them - you can transfer the file to your friends using Cheeta or send them here.
