Civics Common Task Resources
Thanks to Mr. Allen for providing these links for the 8th grade
students!
- History Central.com
on Elections (http://www.multied.com/elections/)
- Procedural
Guide to the Electoral College (http://www.nara.gov/fedreg/elctcoll/proced.html)
has a description of the Electoral College and how it works.
- FindLaw
(http://www.findlaw.com/casecode/supreme.html) has the Supreme Court
Cases online. Nice site!
- RealClearPolitics.com
(http://www.realclearpolitics.com/) has current news stories of
political interest.
- Cornell Law
School's Supreme Court Site (http://supct.law.cornell.edu/supct/)
has an archive of Supreme Court decisions (you know, like the one
you have to do for your common task?) and lots of other stuff.
Worth checking out!
- Freedom
Forum (http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=13091)
has research materials on several First-Amendment issues.
- Oyez Oyez Oyez: Supreme Court
Multimedia Database (http://oyez.nwu.edu/) has information
about Supreme Court cases and the justices. Also has some sounds and
images.
- Information Please Online
Almanac (http://www.infoplease.com/) will help you find what
was happening in the world when your case took place. Go to
the Interactive Almanac section, type in the year you need, and
press "go."
- FactMonster
(http://www.factmonster.com/us.html) also has a place to enter the
year you need to look up and will give you a nice timeline of events
during the year your case was heard by the Supreme Court.
Don't forget about the Decades books we have in the
Library for you to use! Ask for a study hall pass or see us to find out
what days we'll be open for you to come to the Library after school!
