There are few Caitiff in Europe,
or indeed anywhere else. The blood of Caine still runs strong in his descendants,
and the clan affinities and flaws are still very pronounced. However, princes
are largely powerless to prevent Cainites from creating neonates. Consequently,
some lineages have thinned to the 13th generation and beyond. Many of the
more careless and prolific sires make little effort to educate or watch
over their creations, and some of these neonates remain forever ignorant
of their clan.
In many instances, elders attempt to bring such neonates into the fold
(they may be useful pawns, after all), but sometimes lack the power to
compel obedience. Many clans simply lack the inclination to force their
Caitiff members to rejoin.
In such cases, where the vampire is allowed to remain apart from her
clan, her childer and their
childer may have neither a sense of belonging nor any direct link to their
precursor's clan, and become truly Caitiff.
