Legends name Set, or sometimes Sutekh, as the clan's founder. In ancient Egypt, or so they say, Set was a great warrior and hunter. He hounded the desert nights like a beast and became worshipped by mortals as the god of night. He welcomed such worship and enjoyed the respect of his fellow Cainites. But eventually he was cast out. Here the stories become confused; some say Osiris banished Set, while others claim Horus defeated him. In any event, Set swore to reestablish his rule, but this time from the darkness. And in his footprints walked his childer.
Set disappeared in A.D. 33, promising to return someday to his followers. The Setites therefore work to make the world a fitting place for their master's return. So far, they have enjoyed moderate success. They approve of the widespread disease and imbalance of wealth; the more unhappy someone is, the more likely she will snatch at any chance to better her lot.
Setites work in insidious ways. They believe that the best way to corrupt someone is to give that person exactly what she wants, and what desire breed even stronger desire. They foster ecstasy and indulgence in their flocks, always encouraging excess, quietly addicting their prey to the pleasures only the Setites can provide. Pity the Thrall with a Setite Regnant, or anyone else caught in their honeyed snare. The Followers of Set do what they do from religious zeal, and thus can be even more merciless than the inhuman Tzimisce.
obriquet: Serpents
ppearance: Most Setites come from Middle Eastern or North African backgrounds; some appear in the most unexpected places. Red hair is prized as a mark of Set. Many of the Followers wear archaic neo-Egyptian robes while in the privacy of their havens. Ritual disfigurement is popular among zealous Setites, though the nature of such varies among individuals.
aven: Setites prefer lairs deep underground; caverns, grottoes and oubliettes are all popular. They enjoy decorating the walls of these havens with Egyptian hieroglyphs detailing the story of Set. Rare cloths and incenses are also popular among those Setites who enjoy boasting of their decadence. They call their havens temples, and often place them under or near the headquarters of any cult they may be controlling.
ackground: Followers of Set typically choose neonates from their own retainers. They tend to select only those of Egyptian descent, but some say that the most extensive Viking raids picked up Setites and carried them back to the north. These rumors, and those or Norse Cainites paying homage to the Midgard Serpent through debased rites, have yet to be proven.
haracter Creation: Setites, specially those in Western Europe, tend to come from outsider concepts. Possible Natures include Tyrant, Rogue or Monster; their Demeanors might be whatever seems appropriate. They lean toward primary Social Attributes and Talents. Most have the Background of Retainers, as well as some Contacts, Herd or Influence. Loyal Setites follow the Road of Typhon.
lan Disciplines: Obfuscate, Presence, Serpentis
eaknesses: Setites are very susceptible to sunlight. Double the dice for damage from any exposure to the sun.
rganization: Setite groups organize into temples and have a form of church hierarchy passed down from the forst priests of Set. They often form small cults of mortal followers, with themselves as the dark clergy. There is some backstabbing and treachery within the ranks, but only as long as no outside force threatens the clan.
uote: Ah, say no more, my friend. No words are necessary. You hunger - I can sate you. You thirst - I can quench that thirst. Please, follow me.
ssamites: They, too, know the anger of the persecuted.
rujah: These zealots are strong fighters, but ultimately as flawed pottery. Their anger will crack them in half.
appadocians: In their obsession with forgotten knowledge lie both danger and opportunity. Cultivate them, for they would make excellent scribes to the glory of Set's reign.
angrel: Feed a dog the meat it craves and it will lick your hand. So it is with the Gangrel.
asombra: Yes, they understand darkness. All they lack is knowledge of His name...
alkavians: How can one lead a lunatic into temptation? Best to avoid these ones.
osferatu: They might be dangerous if not for their self-proclaimed hopelessness. Ultimately, they serve very little purpose.
avnos: They scoff and strut and thieve, pretending to take nothing seriously. But they cannot deny the monster that lurks deep within.
oreador: For all their righteous talk of the spiritual purity of art, they submit to their vices readily enough.
remere: Ah, the new players emerge on the field of millenia. We must arrange to welcome them suitably and generously.
zimisce: Their lordships make much of their power and independence, and indulge in what they consider shows of strength in indulgence. What irony that they all but belong to us already.
entrue: Love of power and jaded sensibilities; the Ventrue have needs, and we are always happy to offer relief.
aali: Children.
