Swann Family     First off thanks for having a web site for all to enjoy. I am Raymond E. Swann great-grandson to Lewis Rolfe Swann, his last birth son Reason E.Swann, Reasons' first son Homer E. Swann my father. I have many records on Lewis and some headstone photos taken by someone and eventually forwarded to me. The Swann family cemetery includes Charlotte Berry, his first wife, Elizabeth Jane (Jane E.Green), His second wife (my great-grandmother), Gypsie (a few month old daughter). My understanding is the cemetery is near Swan Branch Road off of Brushy Creek Road. I have viewed many topographic maps of the area and found a cemetery just north of the road's intersection to the east (and uphill) and another to the west of the end of Swan Branch Road (up and over the hill ). Latitude and longitude coordinates work out good in today's computer age. Is there any one that could forward coordinates to me for the Swann cemetery. I am attaching the photos for placement on the web page. Also a book on the Swanns of Cabell County W.V. is attached (like you might need some more records) I am always confused on the spelling of Swan(n) on all of their records in Lawrence County. Civil War records always have SWAN, headstones have SWAN and SWANN Are there any biographies from in that area of Blain / Cordell in that time span?  Photos &  information contributed by Raymond E. Fanny and Green, as he was called, lived their life here and it was here that their nine children were born.  Fanny was laid to rest only about fifteen feet from the father she never really knew and following Green's death, he was buried beside Fanny on the farm that is now known as "The Green Ball Farm", located at the head of Mattie, Lawrence County, KY.   Photo &  information contributed by Ken Thompson.

James  Asher & Thursa (Miller) Lemaster.  James Asher Lemaster was the eldest son of Henry Clay and Martha (Frazier) Lemaster, born on 7 May 1892. James had three brothers and two sisters. James lived his early life in Johnson County, Kentucky.  Sometime prior to 1920, James married Thursa MILLER, the eldest daughter-- and oldest of nine children -- of George W. and Dora Belle PACK Miller. (James had a very brief previous marriage. We lack details on that marriage at this time.)

James owned and operated a portable sawmill. However, James never learned to drive an automobile. He relied on his youngest daughter, Wanda Ward, or his son, James Edward, for transportation. His son attempted to teach James to drive once, very unsuccessfully. This may account for James' habit of occasionally hitting cars with canes as he walked the streets of Louisa, KY, later in life.

Martha Belle, the middle daughter, contracted tuberculosis. Likely due to this illness, James worked later in life as a boiler operator at the tuberculosis hospital in Ashland, KY. (Martha Belle lost her battles with the disease as a young adult.)

James and Thursa worshipped in the United Baptist Church. They lived next door to the Flattop Restaurant in Louisa. James preached the gospel during many services. After the morning service, James would ask many fellow worshippers to his home for a meal. Thursa would work the entire morning, often with her visiting grandchildren assisting, to prepare food for the visitors. Just as frequently, visitors would return for dinner prior to the evening service. Her work finished, Thursa -- and the grandchildren -- would accompany James to evening meeting.

James and Thursa lived their senior years with their eldest daughter, Dorothy Senters, in Ashland, KY. Both now rest in the Fairchild-Lemaster Cemetery near Louisa, KY ( Located off State Route #644, Lawrence Co., KY).   Photo & information contributed by Donna Lemaster Fink.
