MY MOOSE

Dan Mauser had a special kind of humor. He was so funny to me just because everything was so serious to him. I have three really special memories of Dan that I don’t think I will ever be able to forget, and I’m glad because they give me something to smile about. The first was one day in debate class last year. I was sitting there coloring in my assignment book but all I was doing was drawing colorful lines. Dan watched me for a few minutes. Finally he asked what I’m doing. I laughed and said “coloring Dan coloring.” He looked at me and then said.. “how often do you do this?” I showed him my assignment book and all the way from the beginning of the year was colored. He looked at me very seriously. And I shrugged and said “ I guess I’m addicted Dan I’m sorry I just cant stop” He nodded then I handed my markers to him and told him to try it and experience the joys of lines. He did it for a few moments then stopped looked at me. “ Lindsey.. your so odd” And then we both laughed. Another one is at a speech tournament. Dan competed in Lincoln Douglas Debate. I was there to support my friends. Dan and the other LD'ers had gone off to have a meeting and discuss cases. After they had come back my friend Allison and I went for a walk around the school. As we walked passed the room where the LD meeting had been in I saw Dan's Bronco's coat. Al and I grabbed it and started running down the hall in slow motion yelling Daniel Mauser paging Daniel Mauser please meet come get your coat it misses you. We ran right passed him and he just watched us run by then shook his head and walked off to his rounds. One other thing I remember about Dan is how he never got "angry" he just got.. very.. annoyed. When the debate team first started calling him Moose he stood up looked at the person who started it all and said in his "tone" Peter shut up. He had his hands on his hips and he was so serious. It was so funny. After everything happened my friend went to Yellowstone and came back with a moose figuring. It has its hoofs on its hips in mock annoyance. Its my little Dan. I love you so much Dan your the greatest. Daniel Conner Mauser June 25, 1983- April 20, 1999.
