Thoughts from the editor....February 6, 1997 Chris Webber was named as a replacement to the All-Star team and Bob Staak is our new coach...Webber on the all-star team? That is expected, but Bob Staak acting as the Bullets coach going into the All-Star break? That is unexpected!!! The Bullets have been very inconsistent this year, currently holding a very poor 22-25 record. They beat up on the Orlando Magic as the finally should have (See January 22 edition of "TFTE") by 20 points. This looked like a positive win leading up to a tough road trip. The team, as well as the Washington Post were optimistic. The team and the Post felt that a split in the four game road trip would be a nice way to end the first half of the season. The team also felt this was a very realistic goal. Apparently not...After getting hammered by the Lakers and Rockets, the Bullets looked sluggish in a close loss to the lowly Nuggets. This left them with a four game losing streak and a 0-4 record on the west coast swing...not very good for a quality team if you ask me?! After the huge defeats by the Lakers and Rockets, Wes Unseld apparently agreed that this was not a very good showing from this quality team, what did he do? He fired a likeable Jimmy Lynam in search of better leadership. I agree with the move, some change had to be made, and Wes could not give up any of his players. The Bullets first showing under their new coach, was not very good, but hopefully their play will improve with a new leader. Feel free to respond with an e-mail.
