Elf Field Hospital.
My first reaction to these gaming accessories, "was what the heck can you do with those", but I soon realised that the beauty of these pieces is that you do actually come up with lots of ideas for their use.
This 11-piece kit includes 5 individual Ferach elves and a three-figure stretcher barer set. Along with this there is a three-piece operating table with a ‘nice’ arrangement of ‘medical tools’ placed on top.
The stretcher barer set is a simple affair with two elves carrying a third elf that has been wounded with a gut shot. Though the attempt has been made to make the elf look like he is in pain by the scream on his face, it falls short by the placement of his right hand, which makes him look like Michael Jackson. The stretcher itself fits neatly into the holes in the barer hands. These figures alone have possibilities for scenarios, e.g. you can use them in a campaign to get your wounded figures off the table.
Next up are the field surgeons who are attired in aprons, and are working hard with their sleeves rolled up. One of these surgeons is equipped with a large knife with which ‘I am sure he will save plenty of lives’, whilst fetching water is the surgeons aid figure that is just a basic elf. Along with these there is also another wounded elf that is hobbling along with a peg leg.
Finally is the elf doctor figure that in my opinion is the best figure in the box. Wearing a long coat and glasses this figure would be perfect as a with a little converting Ferach spy.
This box set is also supplied with a basic painting guide and a list of stats for the elves in the set.
Generally this box is not my sort of thing as it is definitely one for the total and true Flintloque fan, however, the actual figures are nice enough and if I can find uses for them then so will others.
Orc Camp Followers
This is a 9 pieces set which includes three female orcs, an orc reporter ("Michael Borke"), an orc child pulling a cart, and a small campfire.
The three female orcs are first up and from the box cover you can see they are all very different. The first is a young velumptous gypsy orc, who I am sure has seen a few blokes in the ranks. The second is an old mother type with rollers in her hair, cig in mouth and cup of tea in her hand, and I am sure she could give someone a good beating by the size of her fore arms. The third is a rag woman wearing a mixture of woman’s clothes and military garments, with a barrel slung under her arm.
Next is the child who is pulling a cart, which has a few items of baggage on it. This comes in 4 parts and only requires minimal assembly techniques, but overall I cannot entirely see the point of a child pulling a cart, even as a Flintloque figure. The campfire included in the box is also questionable with some less than realistic flames not adding to its usefulness.
The last figure in the box is the reporter "Michael Borke" who is posed for interviewing, note pad and pen at the ready, and is dress in a suit and a ‘respectable’ hat. A real ‘ladies man’ I am sure. Of course as with a lot of the humour in the Flintloque range, some of our colonial cousins may miss some of the jokes (Michael Borke is based on BBC news reporter Michael Burke for instance). Still this doesn't distract from the product any less.
Although all the figures in this box have character, and it comes with stats and a painting guide, the only one I like and could see myself using is the reporter, and compared to the field hospital this lacks in content and usability.
