Insects in this order go through complete metamorphosis.
This process has three distinctly different stages. The young or larvae are worm-like, and in this order take the form of grubs. Following the larval stage, these insects have an inactive pupal stage during which they will change into their adult form. Adult beetles have no resemblance to their larval stage.
As you can see, the weevil larvae shown in the picture (compliments of the Iowa State University entomology site!) are very small!
