Peach
Prunus persica
Peaches are believed native to China. This variety is now
grown ornamentely in the middle elevations of Hawaii. The fruit
is good, but small and usually damaged by the Mediterranean
Fruit Fly. The family of Roses, Rosaceae , includes many
common fruits and berries: Peach, Plum, Strawberry, Blackberry,
Raspberry, Apple, Cherry and Almonds....none of which are native
to Hawaii but the Papa `Ohelo, or Hawaiian Strawberry, and the
`Akala, or Hawaiian Raspberry.
