The Background

Fletcher

Just around the time when I was going through a boring time with Taim, I decided to make a new character in the world of Arda. Originally, I created him thinking that I would take my revenge on evil people by assassinating him. But once I have started with Fletcher, he developed into a follower of light, despite my predictions.

Fletcher is a Hobbit warrior. He is a strict upholder of justice and good, and is willing to fight for that cause. Fletcher is somewhat of a loner, only partying with those he knows very well. He is very cautious, and his hand never strays too far from the hilt of his sword. He is a ferocious fighter.

The Story

The Beginning

Fletcher was born unto Arda sometime in the Summer of 1996. For some reason, he was very wise from the first day on. He needed to read no help files or get any help finding things to hunt. He was very independent, and liked to do things his way.

On his first day in Arda, Fletcher studied the arts of warriors with Scalus, the warrior trainer. He knew that warriors were the bravest of classes, and that enemies feared them greatly. Fletcher defied the stereotype that hobbits were puny warriors, and showed his great strength and honor many times.

For the next few months, Fletcher was known as "Killer of Rodents." This name fit him well, because he killed primarily those little rodents which disgusted him. In his escapades, Fletcher discovered many new places such as the Barrow Downs and Michel Delving. He travelled wide and far, spanning all the way across West Arda: Rivendell, Bree, Hobbiton, Bywater, Michel Delving, Belegost, and the Grey Havens. While in the Grey Havens, Fletcher took a great liking to the Elves living there. Although often stern, Fletcher was attracted to their wandering and happy spirits. He didn't fit the description of a merry old Hobbit considering his stern and precise outlook on life. Fletcher took no pleasure in killing, it was just one of those things he had to do.

The Middle Years

Now Fletcher had grown much stronger, although he was still as wise as always. His adventures had taken him to the misties and as far as Rhosgobel. But now, he had returned to Bree to explore Fornost.

Fornost...the one place that stood between Fletcher and being perfect. The orcs in there made him shake with anger. What pleasure he took when finishing them off.

Fletcher's adventures in the dike began on level one. Every day he would check for stunted orcs or half-orcs. He was determined to exterminate their race, although they seemed to be endless. As soon as Fletcher felt he had done all he could on the first level of the dike, he was ready to venture down to the second level...

Bravely marching down the stairs of the dike, Fletcher was ready to face any thing that dared to challenge him...except what came. The very darkness of the dike seemed to penetrate his soul. His feeble eyes were lost totally. Blind with fear and rage, Fletcher ran from the dike vowing to come back and destroy it all. He was very ashamed when people saw him fleeing.

The next day, Fletcher came back to the second level carrying a torch, yet he still couldn't penetrate the darkness...he shook his head and was beginning to leave when he noticed a slim elf chant words and flare with light. This was the first time Fletcher had actually seen anything on this level. He was very excited.

Suddenly, Fletcher had a bright idea. Inquiring the elf's name, he found that he was Weazel. Fletcher asked Weazel if he would provide light in the dike. He offered protection for the wizard, and half of the stuff they found. Fletcher didn't really care about how much treasure he found as opposed to killing the orcs.

The adventure went great. The two fighting together were wonderful! That night both spells and sword combined to clear out all of the dike except one room which repelled the two. Weary from fighting, the left the dike happily, hoarding all that they had found.

Fletcher was happy, but something was wrong...Ah! Yes. The room that repelled him. He was determined to find whatever was in that room and kill it. But it seemed that Weazel had different ideas...he was nudging towards the idea of making a team. This was the first time that Fletcher had actually come in close contact with another. He was dubious, but decided to try teaming up.

A few months later, Fletcher and Weazel walked out of the dike side by side. They weren't talking to eachother, just holding their heads high and walking...it was the beginning of a great friendship that would last forever.

The Present and Future

Fletcher still makes many trips to the dike. Recently, his friend, Weazel, went into hibernation for many days, and he misses him greatly. Without this aid in the dike, Fletcher has no one to light his way. Thus, he has slipped into a depression over never finding that room again.

Fletcher still waits patiently for that day when Weazel will come back and they will renew their friendship. His vows to destroy the dike still hold strong, and he wait...times grow dark, but Fletcher will never waver. Maybe the future holds a guild in store for Fletcher. Maybe he will be ambitious and start his own guild. There is no telling what the future holds for Fletcher, because he forges his own path.

My thanks

I send my luck to my great friend and companion, Weazel, and hope that he will get back online. He may find that some of my characters have grown greatly, though. :) The same thanks to the same people as on the Two Towers Page (back).
