The Two Towers LpMUD

Their Homepage

The Background

I have spent many hours of the last two years playing on the LPmud, Two Towers. When I had first heard about MUDS from my cousin, I searched online under MUDS and found The Two Towers. Since that time, I have been faithful to this MUD, playing only it and several others. It still holds the title of being the most fun and user-friendly.

My main character on The Two Towers is Mazrim Taim. He is a Sindar wizard. Taim struggles to stay nuetral in all the matters he judges. He is not well-known in the world, but enjoys being a member of the illustrious guild, Rimsilval. He enjoys exploring new areas with his friend and companion, Foraker.

The Story

Mazrim Taim
The Beggining

Mazrim Taim (my main character) was born unto Arda sometime around August of 1995. His first few days there were very confusing: learning how to walk (which led to exploring), wielding his first sword and killing his first chipmunk.

Taim soon made many new friends in Arda. Exploring the newbie dungeon, Taim found that the vile snakes in there were much to hard for him. He banded up with other adventurers, Mathew and Rozi to kill these things. The friendship with these two began with hunting in the dungeon, but soon expanded to other places.

As Taim grew older and wiser, he began to grow weary of the confining walls of The Last Homely House, so he decided to explore the surrounding forests. Out here, he found many small animals and rodents that supplied fine pelts. Immediately, Taim and Rozi took up the lives of hunters and lived off Rivendell forest. For the next few days, Taim's life was very simple: purchase a cheap little knife, hunt animals, and sell the pelts to the nice little lady in the portal.

Listening to the comm line, Taim learned of how large the world actually was, and how small Rivendell forest was in comparison. Taim was awed by the fact that there could be so much more, so he decided to set out in search of adventure with Rozi. The two followed the Great East Road carefully, often sidetracking to kill a few animals and get their pelts. The going was slow and the journey took lots of time, but once the companions reached Weathertop, their hearts were warmed by the first signs of civilization.

Eventually but relunctantly, Taim wandered into the great city of Bree. At first, he was scared by the tall and powerful Dunedains he saw, but eventually, he learned to love their gruff ways. Exploring Bree, Taim bumped into the gossiper, with whom he became great friends and shared many stories. Later, he met a wonderful lady, Pepper (who he met later in a guild). She was very helpful, and helped Taim to find chipmunks to kill.

By now, Taim was becoming familiar with the fast-going city life. The sheltered days in Rivendell were receding to memory now, as city life required his full attention. There were still many surprises to find in the city: the chill of encountering an assassin, the imposing nature of the sheriffs...Taim was often confused and flustered. There was so much conflict between good and evil and right and wrong, Taim knew he had to make a decision, but first....exploring.

Taim left Rozi in Bree and headed farther east until he reached Hobbiton. Compared to Bree, Hobbiton and Bywater were downbeat. Taim was amused by the clumsy ways of hobbits, but he held nothing against them, since they treated him so nicely. In Hobbiton, Taim met a powerful wizard , Darkspunk, who told him of lands far away. He also imparted some knowledge on battle tactics. Taim was alot smarter after meeting Darkspunk.

There was only one more place to explore to the west, and that was the mysterious Belegost. In taverns in Bree and Bywater, Taim had heard many stories about the dark home of Dwarves. As curious as ever, Taim set out once again to explore this new place. On his first step into Belegost, Taim was chilled to the bone. His fine elven eyesight couldn't penetrate the darkness of the caves, so he was lost to wander. Spending many days (or what he thought was days) wandering, Taim finally was guided to a cave with light streaming from it. Over-excited, Taim rushed into the room and was met by many Dwarves.

This was Taim's first encounter with Dwarves, and he found that the stories were true. Although they were rough, the Dwarves meant no harm to Taim. They simply didn't want them in their caves, so they "invited" him to leave. Taim quickly took up the offer and left as fast as he came in. Once again stumbling through the caves in the darkness, Taim met a person that would grow to one of his best friends...Foraker.

Foraker was a dwarf, but he was different than the others. He treated Taim very nicely, and was in great need of his help. Although he was a Dwarf and could penetrate the darkness, he was lost and needed a guide. So, they were in the same boat, and they banded together to get out.

Once out of the caves, Taim and Foraker made a B-line back to Bree were they reunited with Rozi. Foraker and Rozi took up a liking for eachoter immediately. But there was no time for friends...Taim had decided to take his stand in the world. He had learned and explored enough...it was time to settle down and form an opinion. Taim told this to his friends, and they all went on seperate paths for a little while

Darkspunk's influence had stayed true, and Taim studied the arts of wizardry. He immediately took up the grey robes to signify nuetrality in all matters. He hefted his staff and looked at the world bravely, feeling very confident...

The Good Years (The Middle)

Taim was a wizard now. He took his profession very seriously, and grew very powerful in the magics. Soon enough, Taim met up with Foraker the ranger and Rozi the sheriff. Once again they were adventuring together.

Taim found that he could earn money by selling services his profession could provide. For example, many adventurers were looking for wizards that could light their way through Fornost, or the Dike. Taim took up this job, and for this reason learned the layout of the dike. Later he would return with Foraker and Rozi to fight there instead of light the way.

The next few years were spent fighting in the Dike and growing stronger. Taim was quite familiar with West Arda now, and he was anxious to explore over the mountains. Once he felt strong enough, Taim traveled through Rivendell to the High Pass. Just the sight of this was imposing on Taim and here he found a frightening adventure with Goblins.

Taim was a fast-learner and soon found himself bored when fighting in the dike. He knew now that he could travel to East Arda. Setting out with Foraker, he headed to Framsburg, Rhosgobel, and Thranduils palace. Together, Taim and Foraker made a great team, and they often went exploring together. They explored down into Lothlorien and Edoras together.

Taim was faced with only one problem at the time. And this was that in East Arda he was beginning to lose his neutrality. His encounter with races of evil and with evil assassins had tempted him to become a "good" person. This was a problem he could not help and decided to let it flow however.

There was much to do with Foraker in East Arda. There were many spells to study, and Taim enjoyed the life as a wizard. Although he did not become a famous person in the world, Taim enjoyed a simple life. He still had contact with West Arda, where Rozi lived and fought.

Hearing stories from Rozi, roused Taim's memories of Rivendell. Taim missed his conversations with Elrond, the elf lord, in The Last Homely House. Times were growing darker, and Taim was greatly moved by this. The world had a great effect on him... Deep in a depression, Taim decided to take a break from adventuring and head back to the safety of Rivendell.

The Time for Guilds

Taim spent the next few weeks resting in Rivendell. He had many interesting conversations with Elrond, and he learned that his Silvan cousins had travelled to the Grey Havens. He was still recovering from some unseen obstacle that killed his adventuring spirit...soon enough though, Taim was brave enough to adventure to Framsburg. While looking at some ruins, Taim met Jbpoe, a diplomat for the illustrious guild of Rimsilval. Jbpoe told Taim of the great guild, which supported the same virtues he upheld. Taim left Jbpoe with this knowledge, and went back to Rivendell to think it over.

Taim knew that being in the guild would give him another cause to fight for. It solved his problem of being nuetral, considering it was a guild of knowledge. Knowledge...that's what he wanted. The only problem that faced Taim now was the fact that he was much to young and inexperienced to join such a great guild, so he went out adventuring again...

A couple years later, a much smarter, wiser, and stronger Taim was standing at the portal entrance to Rimsilval. He applyed with his two sponsers, Pepper and Drizzt (two great people that were VERY helpful) and soon found himself part of the guild.

The guild turned out to be just what Taim needed. The wonderful people of Rimsival welcomed him with open arms, and Taim felt the most accepted he had in many years. One of the first people Taim met in the guild was Cujo, a great guy who taught him lots of stuff.

Taking the idea of guilds seriously, Taim defended the honor and virtues of Rimsilval. In the process he made some enemies with assassins from rivaling guilds. It was worth it, of course, because the guild was what he believed in. Also, Taim applied for the job as a loremaster in the guild. He would be a great scholar, researching the histories and present places of Arda and storing them in the great Rimsilval library.

The Present and Future

Taim is still a member of Rimsilval. Once again, he has lost his sense of adventure, but it will come back surely when he begins exploring Minas Tirith with Foraker. Although it is tempting to sit around in the guild and simply talk, Taim still leaves the confining walls to explore and kill the occassional orc that seems to annoy him. Taim is as curious as ever, always looking for a new adventure to get him excited. He has lots to learn, though.

The future looks good for Taim. He has a healthy standing in a wonderful, powerful guild. He has friends that will never fail him, and has a virtue to uphold. The future looks bright for Taim, although times may grow dark...there is still Mordor and many other places to explore.

My thanks

I would like to thank all of those people on The Two Towers who have made his experience alot better. Especially, my two best friends, Foraker and Rozi. My luck to Rozi who recently suicided and started anew. I know how tough it can, be...good luck getting back to your old spot. Other people I would like to thank are all of those in Rimsilval. Especially: Drizzt and Pepper (for getting me in and being really helpful and lots of fun), Cujo (the nicest guy around), Kazin, Kahn (our spars), Solomon (being the great GM he is), Ilmarin (our discussions on macs and PCs), and Glenargos (the retired GM who was lots of fun to talk to). (Many of the people I listed above probably find me a nuisance, but I must put them there because they have been great to me.)Finally, I would like to thank the staff and Ainur (Gods) online. All those hours of back-breaking work to code this game are well rewarding to people like me. Life would have been a lot more boring without them and their efforts. I hope that The Two Towers continues to grow and prosper, so that it can provide fun for people in the future, too.
