Do You Know Jesus?
Do you know without a doubt that you would spend eternity with Jesus if you died? That's the most important question in the world. Once a man came to Jesus and asked, "What must I do to have eternal life?" Jesus replied, "Give up all you have and follow me." That seems to be a mighty high price to pay. But let us ask you, "What are you giving up?" List one thing that you can be certain of in life. Your career, family, health, friends, even your life, can be lost in an instant. Nothing in life is certain, without Jesus. Those are the things that Jesus says to give up. He doesn't want you to live without them, He just wants you to give Him the opportunity to make all those things better. God created you. No one knows you better than Him, and no one loves you more than Him. So, back to the question. Do you know that you will spend eternity with Jesus when you die? There are a few simple steps to answering this question for yourself. Acknowledge that you have sinned against God. What is sin, anyway? It is such an over-used and little-known word. The word sin is rooted in the sport of archery. In archery, everyone knows what the center of the target is called. It is the "bulls-eye." But what are those other rings around the target? They are identified as "Sin 1", "Sin 2", and "Sin 3." Sin means to miss the bullseye. That's it. That's why in Romans 3:23, the Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of God's glory." This simply means that no one in all of the world is perfect. Look at the sport of basketball. Anyone who has ever played the game has missed the basket at least once. We see players making millions of dollars to play basketball. What's the solution to our problem? The solution lies in the effort of God to connect with us, in spite of our sins. In the Bible we read in Romans 6:23 that "The wages of sin is death." What is death? It is eternal separation from God. When we die, all people will be judged. Those who accept the forgiveness of their sins by Jesus will be in Heaven with Him. While those who don't will be separated from God forever. There are no solutions that we can create on our own. All human efforts are still going to fall short of God's perfect standard for heaven. So how can we get there? The second part of Romans 6:23 says, "But the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord." That is the only way to handle the problem of sin in your life. This is what Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." The bridge to God, as shown above is Jesus, Himself. He died for your sins. In Romans 5:8 it says, "God demonstrated His love in this, While we were still in our sin, Jesus Christ died for us." But He did not stay dead. He rose from the dead to give us victory over death. Over 500 witnesses saw Him in a span of 40 days following His resurrection. Jesus is alive. If you will trust Him and give Him all the cares and concerns of your life, He will give you eternal life in Heaven with Him. That's our solution. So, what next? We must respond to the Truth. Jesus said in John 8:32 , "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." And you have already seen that He is "the Truth" in John 14:6. We must now take the next step. *Ask Jesus to forgive your sins. *Trust Him to save you. *Give Him all of your life. You don't have to have your act together before coming to Jesus. In Luke 23:40-43, we see that a thief who was dying beside Jesus was able to trust Him right there on the cross. He had no time to go to church, get baptized, or anything. He was dying. And Jesus made a promise to Him. "Today you will be with me in paradise." Why? Because this man realized he was a sinner, asked Jesus to forgive him, and it was done. That's how easy it is. Would you like to do that right now? All it takes is a sincere prayer from your heart to God: Dear God, I know I have sinned against you, I know that Jesus died for my sins, and rose again. And right now, the best I know how, I ask you to forgive me, take control of my life, and help me to live all the rest of my life for you. Thank you, Amen. If you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, the Bible says you have eternal life. The important thing to know is that once Jesus forgives you, you are free to experience life in Heaven with Him. Now, you must begin to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Find a church that teaches the Bible and the truth of Jesus. If you can't find one, e-mail us and we'll help you connect with a good church in your area. It is very important that you share with people what Jesus has done for you. Let us know about your decision, and then tell those you are close to about your choice to make Jesus your King.
Then you need to begin to read the Bible and learn what Jesus wants you to do. If you need a Bible, e-mail us and we'll help you with that as well. We hope this decision will give you the peace and contentment we all need in the middle of the stressful life we all live here on earth. That peace comes from knowing that Jesus is in control of our lives. We know we can trust God to work His plan out in our lives. Now, as Jesus' disciple, Peter told us in 2 Peter 3:18, we encourage you to "Grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
