5-2 WILLIAM SILAS (RUBE) McCOIN: born 4 May 1859, Pine Lick, Tennessee. Married SARAH ANN CARNAHAN HOLLAND, sister to Margaret Carnahan and widow of Dr. William T. Holland, with two daughters when married. Rube died 25 June 1916, buried in the McCoin private Cemetery on South Fork, Jackson County, Tennessee. This cemetery is in the pasture between the barn and the house. When wevisited it, it had a chain link fence around it, which Dr. Wilson told me the family had put up, and was very well kept. We thanked the man who now lives on the farm for taking such good care of the cemetery and he told us, "I didn't know those people but I keep it up nicely in hopes that someone is taking care of our graves we don't know about". There were several family members in the cemetery. Their children:

He drove a buggy and everytime the car came toward him, he had to jump out of the buggy and put the laprobe over the horses eyes to keep it from running away. W.E. was in very good condition. He went to the YMCA three times a week to swim. A few years before his death, he ran in the seniors races. He won a trip to California recently and flew out there by himself. Their children:

Willie was a vetran of World War 1. Serial number 3091071, serving in the 26th Engineerrs from Camp Forest, Georgia. He was a carpenter, farmer and a trader. In his retirement years he traded knives, sharpened knives and loved winning at checkers.
Ellie cooked on a wood stove until 1965, many years after they had prchased an electric range. She knew the Bible well and read it at least seven times, both old and new testaments. Most of their married life, they lived in the community of Rhodes, Kentucky. They were members of the Beaver Dam United Baptist Church and are both buried at the Bell Key Cemetery, just a few feet from where they lived.

Ben was a Professional golfer--4 times PGA player of the year, one of only 5 players to win four Grand Slam titles (the others were Nicholas, Player, Sarazen and Woods), won 4 US Opens, 2 Masters, 2 PGA's and 1 British Open between 1946-1953. One of only 2 players (Woods being the other) to win three of the four current majors in one year when he won the Masters, US Open and British Open in 1953. He was nearly killed 2 February 1949 in a car accident but came back to win US Open in the 50's. He was third on all-time list with 63 career wins.

They belonged to the Baptist Faith where L. D. was a Deacon. The last years of Ismy, she suffered from Alzheimer Desease. L. D. took care of her until it got to the point she had to go somewhere that could give her special care. L. D. didn't miss a day visiting her and spend most of the days with her. One day, he did not come, which caused the nurses at the Nursing home concern. Upon investigating, they found him in bed, dead from an Anuerism of Acorta. They were married near 65 years.
