RooibosTM Tea was first harvested from plants growing in the mountains around Clanwilliam near Capetown in South Africa. The stems and leaves of the plants were bruised with hammers, and left to ferment in the sun. The resulting beverage was first reported by the botanist Carl Humberg in 1772.
The Rooibos plant is one of the few plants that has made a transition from local wild resource to a cultivated crop. It makes a unique beverage with a characteristic sweet flavor. Recent studies established that RooibosTM tea possesses antioxidant properties (SOD), as well as dermatological benefits.

Against allergies
Annique made extensive inquires about her discoveries and found no
documentation regarding the beneficial effects of Rooibos
TM tea. With the help of a journalist friend, Annique
found eighteen mothers with babies
suffering from a variety of food allergies. These eighteen babies were
to form the core of the study she conducted to verify her findings.
All of these babies reacted positively to the addition of Rooibos
TM tea to their diets,
some in only a few days. Annique's findings were published in the
local
Sunday news paper, and she was inundated with calls from mothers with
similar problems.
Since that historical discovery and the documentation of Annique's
findings,
she helped thousands of allergic babies, children, and adults with the
healing properties of RooibosTM tea.
In 1970 Annique published her findings and studies in her book entitled:
Allergies: An Amazing Discovery
In 1975 Annique launched Annique RooibosTM
Skin Care products. The product line consists of a complete
skin care program. RooibosTM products
are uniquely formulated
to respond to your specific skin type and consistent use will result
in
healthy radiant skin.

There are several ways to prepare RooibosTM
Tea. Here are some suggestions.
Hot Tea:
Three cups of boiling water for each tea bag of Rooibos
TM
Tea. Pour boiling water over the tea bags in a tea pot,
and allow to draw for several minutes. RooibosTM
Tea has a natural sweet taste, and often is drunk
without adding sugar, honey, lemon or milk. It makes
a lovely afternoon tea.
Iced Tea:
Prepare a strong concentrate of RooibosTM Tea by
boiling two quarts of water with at least ten tea bags.
Simmer for 30 minutes until the tea is very strong
and mahogany in color. Cool and store in the refrigerator.
Serve with lots of ice, a squeeze of lemon, or a sprig of
fresh mint.
South African Punch:
Prepare a quart of strong RooibosTM Tea, and while hot,
add 160g of sugar and stir until dissolved. When cool,
add one litre orange juice, one litre apple juice, three
cups spring water and one litre ginger ale. Garnish with
cherries, mint, apple and lemon slices.
RooibosTM con Sangría Señoriál:
Add one part concentrate of RooibosTM Tea to two parts
Sangría Señorial, and add a squeeze of lime. The
Sangría Señorial is a non-alcoholic wine tasting
beverage, and when combined with the soothing effects
of RooibosTM Tea you wind up with one of the few pleasures
in life that is really good for you.
If RooibosTM Tea is stored in the refrigerator it has a
very long shelf life. Try it with fruit juice, it's a
refreshingly delicious drink.

In April 1968 Annique Theron, who had been struggling with her
allergic baby for 14 months, inadvertently added Rooibos
TM tea to her baby's bottle to warm the milk. The
baby had been suffering from severe colic attacks and cried constantly.
For the first
time in 14 months her baby girl slept uninterrupted for more than three hours,
and the vomiting subsided. Annique realized that RooibosTM
tea was instrumental in the relief of her baby's colic.
