Albert Sylvester NORTHUP, (John 12, Nathan 11, George 10, John 9, Benjamin 8, David 7, David 6, Stephen 5, Henry 4, Thomas 3, Thomas 2, Thomas 1). He was born on 18 March 1865 in Canada, the son of John Northup and JULIE ANN NEAR .
Albert's parents, John and Julia lived in Canada for eight years to avoid the Civil War. John's mother died when he was ten years old and he was sent to live with his grandfather, George. In 1868 he moved to Homestead, Iowa and in 1871 to Iowa City, Iowa. In 1877 he packed up his family, having two sons then, and went by covered wagon to Wichita, Kansas to homestead. They settled in Wellington, Kansas but by 1879 John decided he wasn't cut out to be a farmer and missed the people coming into the blacksmith shop in Iowa. That same year they sold their land and took the train back to North Liberty, Iowa where they spent the rest of their lives. It is not known how or when Albert made it to Michigan or why he was not buried there, but returned to Iowa. Many of his descendents live in Michigan to this day.

Wife: Anna Crozier, born 1872-1914, on 20 October 1892 at North Liberty, Johnson County, Iowa. She was a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Orris) Crozier.

Bert sold pharmaceutical supplies. They had three children:
Albert Earling, b. 03 September 1894, Iowa City, IA;
Ada Olga, b 02 May 1900, Iowa City, IA; and
Orel Everett, b. 09 November 1903, Iowa City, IA.

ALBERT SYLVESTER NORTHUP died 22 July 1926 in Detroit, MI. Buried in Kalona, IA.
