Some people reported they had seen a bird like object and others reported a helicopter, but there were no helicopters airborne that night. The Airforce was informed and sent a F-4 fighter to intercept. The brilliant object was visible from as far as 70 miles away. When the F-4 fighter got within 25 nautical miles of the object, all his instrumentation went out. The pilot then broke off the intercept and when he was apparently no threat to the object, his instrumentation returned. A second f-4 was launched. The F-4 gained a radar lock on the object and the radar returned that the object was the size of a 707 tanker(?). The visual size of the object was hard to tell because of the brillance of the object. The light the object gave off was of rotating strobe lights. The F-4 and the object continued on course to the south when another brightly colored object, estimated to be one-half to one third the apparent size of the moon came out of the original object. This second object flew straight at the f-4 at a very high rate of speed and when the pilot attempted to fire missiles at it he lost his weapons control systems and was forced to make a negative g dive to avoid the object.
