Who, or what is Jubilo?
Jubilo is a group of Christian jugglers, clowns and gymnasts, as follows. Oh, and the piccies are meant to represent what each person can do. Anyone got a gymnast picture? And that object with the red and yellow fuzz on the end is a fire torch. Sigh.

Richard Watkins
Clown, unicyclist extraordinaire, juggler, diabloist, stilt-walker, budding tight-rope walker, all round funny guy, and the driving force behind Jubilo. He organises bookings and stuff via the many contacts he has.

Tim Sparks
Juggler, co-gymnast, diabloist, stilt staggerer (walking imminent...), congenital pessimist, and stationary designer. Twin of Ben.

Ben Sparks
Diabloist, devilsticker, juggler, twin of Tim, master of catching (aka dropping with style) the incy winsy diablo of death.

Ben Peart
Diabloist, Juggler, Unicyclist, Clown. Has the annoying habit of learning all the hard tricks before everyone else.

Paul Gray
Incredible gymnast. Also juggler, diabloist, unicyclist and incredibly tall person. Poster designer.
In the summer of '97, Richard was getting a little publicity due to his insistence to ride his unicycle down to church every week. People noticed this, as people do, and fairly soon Richard was approached by people, when they realised he wasn't actually mad. Contrary to our expectations, these people didn't beat him up on sight, and were quite interested in his actions. These 'People' turned out to be the nice people from the Tivoli Theatre. Every year they do a garden party in Wimborne, in aid of that rather excellent theatre. And this year they were looking for something a little different. Rather than go for the big guys who'd been doing shows for years, they decided to support the local talent. So they decided to ask Richard if he could get a few of his mates together, and if they would do a show for this party. Just to keep the crowds entertained.
Thus, Richard spoke unto the masses, and selected a select few followers to follow him on his path to fame, riches and glory. But he chose us, so he was a bit gutted really.
And so, five of us went on that initial endeavour.
Since then we never looked back (except to laugh at ourselves...). Shows gradually became more and more regular, and the content of them became more and more consistent (and impressive!) [Yeah...]. We are now in fourth year of performing and still going strong.
Top
Summer '99: Our first major year as a performing group for hire. The shows kept on rolling in, sometimes four in weekend! A total of 18 shows in the space of three months, left us worn out but with lots of experience.
September '99: Paul left us to go off to Uni at Swansea, but still returns to add sparkle to our shows when he can.
October '99: The first regular Jubilo workshop. Based on a group idea of a local juggling club, we set up in St. Michael's School and are now in our second term, with well over 20 members, with fifteen or so regularly attending. The workshop has proved invaluble for the members and also for ourselves (it forces us to practice...).
January '00: Bookings are already coming in for the summer, with old regulars but also new and exciting venues lined up. Visit our Performance Dates page to find out where to see us.
June '00: The summer bookings are well underway, workshop is as busy as ever, and we are toying with the idea of certificates for our members. This weekend (24th) we have FOUR bookings, all after midday on the Saturday! Phew. Check out our public performances on the dates page!
