             Welcome to my Haines Lineage Page. The surname is also written as Hinds/Hindes/Haines/Haynes. I have been working on this line for long time now, but please excuse the blanks. I believe the information below is correct, but if you find any discrepancies please email me. It is up to you as a researcher to prove your lines. Big shout out to the Long Island Genealogies site.     *James HInds/Haines was born 1612, Co. Bedfordshire, England. He immigrated to Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts around 1637 and became a Freeman (History of the Hinds family). James was a cooper. He married *Mary Knight 1639. Mary was born in 1619 and baptized on 25 June1619, Kingsclere, Co. Hampshire, England, the daughter of *John Knight and *Mary Hawkins. They migrated to Southold, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York. James made his Will in 1652 and died 1652/53, Southold, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York. According to the History of the Hinds Family, James' estate was worth £123.05.04. Mary married twice more. She married secondly to Ralph Dayton and lastly to Foulk Davis. Mary died on 04 May 1699, Jamaica, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York. James and Mary's children were:

1.  John Haines, born 1639, Salem, Essex Co., MA, baptized 28 Aug 1639, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Mary ____ (Mrs. James Butler). Their children were:

     a.  James Hinds, b: unknown, Worcester Co., MA. (Note: unsure if James is the son of John and Mary, or from a previous marriage of John. For now, I am leaving him here).

     b.  John Hinds, b: 19 Jan 1683, Worcester Co., MA, married Hannah Corliss on 31 Aug 1709, Co. Middlesex, England. Hannah b: 1691, Co. Essex, MA. John d: 10 Oct 1747 and Hannah d: 08 Sep 1764, Worcester Co., MA. Children: Anna, John, Frances, Mary, Seth, Jonathan, Dinah, Corliss, Rachel, Tryphena, Cornelius, Submit, and Susanna Hinds.

     c.  Jacob Hinds, b: 1685, Worcester Co., MA, married Grace Morse on 06 Dec 1716, Marlborough, Middlesex Co., MA. Grace b: 07 Jan 1694, Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA, the daughter of Joseph Morse and Grace Warren. Jacob d: 15 Sep 1751 and Grace d: 01 Aug 1731. Children: Tabitha, Sarah, Abigail, Daniel, Joseph, Benjamin, Mary, Tabitha, Jason, Elizabeth and Jacob Hinds.

     d.  Experience Hinds, b: 1697, Worcester Co., MA, married Joseph Marks on 18 Nov 1718, Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA. Joseph b: 1651, Essex Co., MA, the son of Roger Marks and Marilyn Allen. Experience d: 1741 and Joseph d: 09 Dec 1740. Children: John, Joseph, Experience, Hannah and Comfort Marks.

     e.  Hannah Hinds, b: unknown, Worcester Co., MA.

     f.  Hopestill Hinds, b:22 Oct 1689, Worcester Co., MA, married Mary Walker. Mary b: 04 Aug 1694, Suffolk Co., MA, daughter of Edward Walker and Elizabeth Dean. Hopestill d: 1720, Worcester Co., MA. Children: Nehemiah, Bathsheba, Elizabeth, Mary, Abigail Hinds.

     g.  Deborah Hinds, b: 27 Nov 1692, Worcester Co., MA, married Ebenezer Gilbert. Ebenezer b: 21 Jun 1693, Worcester Co., MA, the son of Henry Gilbert and Elizabeth Belding. Deborah d: 13 Jan 1720 and Ebenezer d: 1763. Children: Elizabeth and Joseph Gilbert.

     h.  Enoch Hinds, b: ca 1700, Worcester Co., MA, married Elizabeth Gilbert on 20 Feb 1722, Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA. Elizabeth b: 20 Feb 1702, Worcester Co., MA, the daughter of Henry Gilbert and Elizabeth Belding. Enoch d: 1770, MA. Children: Elizabeth, Ezekial, Abner and Solomon Hinds.

5.  James Haines, born 1647, Salem, Essex Co., MA, baptized 27 Feb 1647, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Anne Barclay. Anne b: 1648, Union Co., NJ. Their children were:

     a.  Sarah Haines, b: 1675, Middlesex Co., NJ, married Joseph Marsh. Joseph b: 01 Apr 1663, New Haven Co., CT, the son of Samuel Marsh and Comfort Mann. Sarah d: 12 Nov 1772 and Joseph d: 21 Dec 1723. Children: Samuel, Joseph, Sarah, James, Charles and Elias Marsh.

     b.  James Haines, b: 1678, Essex Co., NJ, married Mary Lee. Mary b: 1662, Essex Co., NJ. James d: 07 Oct 1731 and Mary d: 1731. Children: Mary, Deborah, Elizabeth, Patience, Sarah, James, John and Joseph Haines.

     c.  Mary Haines, b: 1691

     d.  Deborah Haines, b: 1693, NJ, married Richard French on 17 Dec 1716, Essex Co., MA.

6.  Jonathan Haines, born 1648, Salem, Essex Co., MA, baptized 11 April 1648, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Mary Pynchon Glover on 07 November 1693, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. Mary born 1673, the daughter of John Pynchon and Amy Willis. Mary was previously married. Jonathan died 22 September 1697 and Mary died 19 Aug 1726.

7.  Sarah Haines, born 1648, Salem, Essex Co., MA, baptized 11 Apr 1648, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Moses Aborn. Moses born 1645, Co. Dorset, England, the son of Samuel Aborn and Catherine Smith. Sarah died 01 November 1676. Moses remarried. Their children were:

     a.  Moses Aborn, b: 14 Feb 1673, Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Mary Tarbox on 07 Mar 1752, Essex Co., MA. Mary b: 13 Jul 1686, Essex Co., MA, the daughter of John Tarbox and Mary Haven. Moses d: 01 Oct 1756.

     b.  Joseph Aborn, b: 24 Apr 1674, Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Elizabeth Prechotte. Joseph d: 1711

8.  Thomas Haines, born 1646, Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, baptized 04 March 1651, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, married twice. He married firstly to Martha Barnard on 26 October 1667, Salisbury, Essex Co., MA. Martha born 22 September 1645, Essex Co., Massachusetts. She died 19 May 1700. Their children were:

     a.  Thomas Haines, b: 27 May 1670, Essex Co., MA. Thomas d: 03 Oct 1723, ME.

     b.  Eleanor Haines, b: 07 Feb 1673, Essex Co., MA, married twice. She married firstly to Samuel Weeks on 23 Aug 1695, NH. Eleanor married secondly to Matthews Yongs/Youngs. Matthews b: 1674, York Co., ME, the son of Rowland Yong/Young and Susannah Matthews. Eleanor d: 20 Nov 1750 and Matthews d: 09 Mar 1751.

      Thomas married secondly to Sarah Rae/Ray on 15 October 1676, Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts. Sarah born 04 June 1661, Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, the daughter of Joshua Rae/Ray and Sarah Waters. Their children were:

     e.  Sarah Haines, b: 31 Oct 1681, Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Roger Huckings. Roger b: 1675, Salem, Essex Co., MA, the son of Roger Huckings and Hester Harris. Sarah d: 1759 and Roger d: 1763. Children: Hannah, Mary, Achsah, Elizabeth, Susannah, Huldah, Hindrance, John, Thomas and Benjamin Huckings

     f.  Joseph Haines, b: 18 Oct 1683, Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Hannah Clemson. Hannah b: 1692, England, the daughter of James Clemson and Katherine Wright. Joseph d: 1760, PA and Hannah d: 1739, PA. Children: Batholomew, David, Mary, James, Hannah, Helen, Margaret, John and Jonathan Haines.

     g.  Benjamin Haines, b: 21 Sep 1685, Salem, Essex Co., MA, married Ann ____. Benjamin d: 1733, Salem, Essex Co., MA. Children: Joseph, John, Ann, Mary, Benjamin, and Hannah Haines.

     h.  Daniel Haines, b: 25 Aug 1687, Salem, Essex Co., MA, d: 30 Jun 1689, Salem, Essex Co., MA.

    *Benjamin Haines was born 1643, Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, and baptized on 26 August 1643, First Congregational Church of Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, married *Johanna Jennings. Joanna was born in 1643, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York, the daughter of *John Jennings and *Anne Youngs. Benjamin died 23 November 1687 and Johanna died 1685. Their children were:

1.  Charity Haines, born 10 April 1668, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York, married Nathan Fordham. Nathan born 1667, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York, the son of Joseph Fordham and Mary Clark. Charity died 16 April 1733 and Nathan died 1712. Their children were:

     a.  Nathan Fordham, b: 1691, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, married Abigail White. Abigail b: 1704, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, the daughter of Ephraim White and Sarah Herrick. Nathan d: 19 Dec 1774 and Abigail d: 09 Jan 1772. Children: Sarah, John, Nathan, Prudence, Daniel, George, Ephraim, Ann, and Charity Fordham.

     b.  Hannah Fordham, b: 07 May 1693, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, married John Sayre on 18 Apr 1717. John b: 17 Mar 1692, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, the son of John Sayre. Hannah d: 05 Jun 1782 and John d: 12 Mar 1767. They are buried in the Flying Point Cemetery, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY (findagrave). Children: Daughter, John and Matthew Sayre.

3.  Samuel Haines, born 1671, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York, married Lydia Stokes. Lydia born 29 June 1678, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, the daughter of Thomas Stokes and Mary Barnard. Samuel died 06 September 1732 and Lydia died 22 January 1716. Their children were:

Ruth b: 09 Apr 1722, Hanover, Morris Co., NJ, the daughter of Joseph Tuttle and Abigail Ogden. Children: Silas and Jemima Haines. Silas d: 1743, Hanover, Morris Co. NJ. Ruth married secondly David Kitchel.

     John Haines, b: 1713, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, married Mary Ann Frost. Mary b: 27 Oct 1720, Hebrand, Tolland Co., CT, the daughter of William Frost. John d: 15 Dec 1772 and Mary d: 1801. They are buried in the Gilead Cemetery, Carmel, Putnam Co., NY. Children: John, Samuel, Elisha, Sybil, Martha, Irene, Molly, Aaron, Edward Haines

     f.  Ruth Haines, b: 1716, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, married Abraham Rose. Abraham b: 1711, Suffolk Co., NY, the son of Martin Rose. Ruth d: 1793 and Abraham d: 10 Apr 1791. They are buried in the Hayground Cemetery, Hayground, Suffolk Co., New York (findagrave). Children: Samuel and Abraham Rose.

     c.  Phebe Haines, b: 1705, Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY, married twice. She married firstly to Richard Valentine. Richard b: 1703, Nassau Co., NY, the son of Ephraim Valentine and Rachel Ellison. Richard d: 10 Mar 1766, Union Co., NJ. Richard was previously married. Phebe and Richard's children: Abigail, Daniel, Richard, Jonah, Elizabeth, Phebe, Obadiah, Ephraim, Elizabeth, Sarah and Rachel Valentine. Phebe married secondly to William Miller.
