     *William Spencer was born on 08 May 1739, England. William emigrated to the United States and settled in Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married Sarah Sharp Tharp/Thorp. Sarah was previously married to Job Tharp/Thorp. Sarah b: 07 Apr 1733, the daughter of Benoni Sharp of Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. William died at Wantage, Sussex Co., New Jersey. His Will was probated on 26 Feb 1781. Sarah married lastly to Samuel Morris. William and Sarah's children were:

1.  *Nathan Spencer, (See 2nd Generation), b: 07 Jul 1764, Sussex Co., New Jersey.

2.  Ichabod Spencer, b: 04 Jan 1766, Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married twice. He married first to Hannah Shearer. Hannah b: 12 May 1764, Orange Co., New York. Ichabod was listed as early as 1807 in Ohio's Tax Lists. They were listed in the 1830 Falls, Muskingum Co., Ohio Census with 1 m 10-14, 1 m 60-69, 1 f 10-14, 1 f 50-59, the 1840 Falls, Muskingum Co., Ohio Census with 1 m 20-29, 1 m 70-79, 1 f 20-29, 1 f 60-59. Ichabod married secondly to Mary Smith. Mary born 13 Mar 1774, New Jersey, the daughter of Nehemiah Smith and Tabitha Bayless. They were listed in the 1850 Falls, Muskingum Co., Ohio Census records. Ichabod d: 16 Feb 1856 and Mary d: 02 Oct 1858. They are buried in the Williams Cemetery, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio (findagrave). Ichabod and Hannah's children were:

     b. Sarah Spencer, b: 04 Jan 1800, Sussex Co., NJ. She married firstly to David Allen on 28 Sep 1817, Muskingum Co., OH. David b: 23 Mar 1795, Sussex Co., NJ, the son of Noah and Jane Allen. He is buried in the Timber Run Cemetery, Muskingum Co., OH (findagrave). Sarah married secondly to George Debolt on 10 Dec 1852, Muskingum Co., OH. George b: 24 Feb 1781, Fayette Co., PA, the son of George Debolt. Sarah d: 10 Aug 1865 and George d: 01 Oct 1868. They are buried in the Boundary Cemetery, Pike Twp., Jay Co., IN. Sarah and David's children: Ephraim, Noah, Barbary, Sarah, Spencer, Joseph, Hannah, Naomi Allen.

     c. Nathan Spencer, b: 26 Dec 1802, Sussex Co., NJ. He married twice. Nathan married firstly to Martha Peirce on 06 mar 1823, Muskingum Co., OH. Martha b: 1805, NJ. Nathan married secondly to Martha Ann Snyder on 06 May 1869, Clark Co., IL. Martha b: 1828, KY. Nathan and Martha Peirce's children: Ara, William, Elizabeth, Jason, Rheuben, Dorcas, Martha, Sarah Spencer.

     d. William A. Spencer, b: 16 Jul 1808, Muskingum Co., OH. He married Mary Jane Smith on 12 Jan 1845, Perry Co., OH. Mary Jane b: 24 Feb 1822, OH, the daughter of Nehimah Smith and Tabitha Bailey. William d: 03 May 1889 and Mary Jane d: 08 Jan 1897. They are buried in the Somerset Cemetery, Somerset, Perry Co., OH (findagrave). Children: John William, Louisa Adelaide, Mary E., Dewitt, Henry, Charles, Laura Spencer.

     e. John Spencer, b: 10 Feb 1811, Muskingum Co., OH. He married Matilda Rose on 23 Jul 1835, Franklin Co., OH. Matilda b: 1821, OH, the daughter of Cornelius Rose and Sarah Beaty. John d: 09 Aug 1855 and is buried in the Clark Cemetery, Buffalo, White Co., IN (findagrave). Children: Nathaniel, David, Chloe, Lucinda Spencer.

     f. Jason Spencer, b: 28 Feb 1814, Muskingum Co., OH. He married Rachel Savidge on 30 Dec 1840 Delaware Co., OH. Rachel b: 16 May 1819, Muskingum Co., OH, the daughter of Thomas Savidge and Mary Loveridge. Jason d: 09 Apr 1896 and Rachel d: 26 Feb 1890. They are buried in the Williams Cemetery, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH (findagrave). Children: Hannah, Sarah Ann, Adeline, Curtis, Wayne T., Laura, Howard, Harvey Spencer.

     g. Tabitha Dorcas "Dorcas" Spencer, b: 19 Dec 1818, Muskingum Co., OH. She married Franklin T. Smith on 26 Sep 1843, Muskingum Co., OH. Franklin b: 20 Oct 1817, Muskingum Co., OH, the son of Jacob Smith. Dorcas d: 06 Jun 1864 and Franklin d: 28 Jul 1902. They are buried in the Williams Cemetery, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH (findagrave). Franklin remarried after Dorcas' death. Dorcas and Franklin's children: Sarah J., John A., Mary Ellen, Josephine, Monroe Smith.

3.  Sarah Spencer, b: 18 Oct 1867, Sussex Co., New Jersey. She married Nathaniel Smith. Nathaniel, b: 1754, Orange Co., New York, the son of Nehemiah Smith and Tabitha Bayless.

4.  William Spencer, b: 25 Nov 1770, Sussex Co., New Jersey.

5.  Elizabeth Spencer, b: 13 Jul 1772, Sussex Co., New Jersey. She married Joseph T. Heacox. Joseph b: 1818, NY. Eleanor d: 02 Jan 1866 and Joseph d: 26 Jan 1877. Children: Mary, Permelia Jane, Huldah Ann, John, William H., Ira B., Francena A. Heacox.

4.  Morris Spencer, b: 26 Oct 1775, Sussex Co., New Jersey.

     *Nathan Spencer, born 07 Jul 1764, Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married Hannah Holly. Hannah was born 04 Dec 1766, Calne, Co. Wiltshire, England and baptized on 09 Feb 1779, Calne, Co. Wiltshire, England the daughter of William Holly and Mary Peirce. Nathan's Pension Record state that he was in the Naval service during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Mar 1777 at Sussex Co., New Jersey. The Census records Sussex Co., New Jersey for 1790-1820 did not survive. They were listed in the 1830 Sussex Co., New Jersey Census records with 1 m 15-20, 1 m 70-80, 1 f -5, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 60-70. Hannah died on and Nathan died on 19 Jan 1840. Nathan's Will was probated on 13 Feb 1840 in Tioga Co., New York. Nathan and Hannah are buried in the Tioga Cemetery, Owego, Tioga Co., New York. Their children were:

1.  Martha Spencer, b: 27 Aug 1785, Sussex Co., New Jersey. She married Jonathan Catlin. Jonathan b: 01 Mar 1790, Orange Co., New York, the son of Jonathan Catlin and Ann Layton. They were listed in the 1820 Tioga, Tioga Co., New York Census with 2 m 10-15, 2 m 16-25, 1 m 45+, 2 f -5, 1 f 10-15, 1 f 16-25, 1 f 26-44, 1 f 45+, and the 1840 Tioga, Tioga Co., New York Census with 2 m 10-14, 1 m 15-19, 1 m 50-59, 1 f -5, 1 f 15-19, 1 f 20-29, 1 f 50-59. Jonathan d: 15 Oct 1847. Martha was listed in the 1850 Tioga, Tioga Co., New York Census records living with her daughter Sarah and her family. Martha d: 09 Mar 1856. They are buried in the Tioga Cemetery, Owego, Tioga Co., NY (findagrave). Children: Jonathan, Asa M., Deborah, Mary J., Martha, Elizabeth, Susan Smith.

     c. Hannah Catlin, b: 06 Sep 1813, Tioga Co., NY. She married James M. Marvin. James b: 27 Nov 1814, NY. Hannah d: 15 Oct 1855 and James d: 06 Jun 1895. Gilbert d: 04 Sep 1864 and is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Co., VA. Amanda married secondly to Lyman S. Briggs. Lyman b: 30 Dec 1810, NY.      d. Lathrop E. Truesdail, b: 1834, NY. He married Fannie E. Springsteen. Fannie b: 1848, New York, the daughter of Garret and Henrietta Springsteen. Lathrop d: 01 Oct 1964 and is buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery, Alexandria, Alexandria Co., VA.

     e. Nathan S. Truesdail, b: 1835, NY. He married Deborah A. Brink. Deborah b: 27 Oct 1840, NY, the daughter of Lorin Brink and Elsie Cortright. Nathaniel d: 30 Sep 1862. He is buried in the Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton Hampton City Co., VA (findagrave). Deborah married secondly to Thomas Jones. Children: Eliza, David, Georgiana, Ida L. Truesdail.

4.  Jonathan Spencer, b: 02 May 1795, Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married Sarah Northrup on 10 Aug 1816, Sussex Co., New Jersey. Sarah b: 30 Sep 1794, New Jersey, the daughter of James and Sarah Northrup. They were listed in the 1830 Montague, Sussex Co., New Jersey Census with 1 m -5, 2 m 10-14, 1 m 30-39, 1 f -5, 2 f 5-9, 1 f 30-39. Sarah d: 05 Sep 1872. I could not find Jonathan after that Census. Susan married secondly to Stephen Cole. Jonathan and Sarah's children were:

     a. Nathan H. Spencer, b: 02 Apr 1817, Sussex Co., NJ. He married twice. He married firstly to Louisa E. ____. Louisa b: 06 Dec 1820. Louisa d: 19 Aug 1859. Children: Melisa, Byron, Marietta Spencer. Nathan married secondly to Mary McPherson on 09 Aug 1865, Huron Co., OH. Mary b: 1827, NY.      b. James N. Spencer, b: 06 Aug 1819, Sussex Co., NJ. He married Catherine D. Cole. Catherine b: Sep 1826, NY, the daughter of Abraham and Hannah Cole. James d: and Catherine d: 16 Jul 1913. They are buried in the Ridge Cemetery, Veteran, Chemung Co., NY (findagrave). Children: Harriet A. "Hattie", Julietta, Jansen, John E. Horton Spencer.

     c. Sarah Jane Spencer, b: 09 Nov 1821, Sussex Co., NJ. She married James Vansickle. James b: 1818, Sussex Co., NJ, the son of John Vansickel and Jannet Thompson. Sarah d: 09 Sep 1855 and James d: 18 Mar 1876, Sussex Co., NJ. They are buried in the Beemerville Cemetery, Beemerville, Sussex Co., NJ. Children: Frances, Delilah, Eleanor Ophelia, Margaret, John E.      d. Hannah Spencer, b: 24 Jun 1824, Sussex Co., NJ. She married Joseph E. Brink. Joseph b: 1824, NJ, the son of Peter Brink and Mary Winfield. Hannah d: 14 Apr 1895 and Joseph d: 12 Feb 1902.      e. Eleanor Spencer, b: 24 Nov 1826, Sussex Co., NJ. She married three times. Eleanor married firstly to James Lain on 04 Oct 1844. James b: 04 Oct 1783, Orange Co., New York. James d: 25 Dec 1844 and is buried in the Loree Cemetery, Westtown, Orange Co., NY (findagrave). Eleanor married secondly to Caleb Allen. Caleb, b: 1801, NY. Eleanor married lastly to John Shulter.      f. Thomas Northrup Spencer, b: 05 Mar 1829, NJ. Thomas married Sarah Young. Sarah b: 24 Jul 1835, NY, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth WIlson. Thomas d: 21 Jan 1903 and Sarah d: 04 Dec 1907.      f. Eliza Maria Spencer, b: 06 Aug 1831, Sussex Co., NJ. She married Conrad Smith. Conrad b: 31 Jan 1827, NY, the son of Benjamin Smith and Martha Smartwood. 5.  David Tharp Spencer, b: 27 Oct 1801, Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married Dora B. Gibson/Gilson. Dora b: 09 May 1807, New York, the daughter of Joseph Gilson and Mary Ward. They were listed in the 1850 Spencer, Tioga Co., New York Census and the 1860 and 1870 Tioga, Tioga Co., New York Census. Dora d: 17 Sep 1878.      c. Mary Jane Spencer, b: 17 Apr 1835, NY. She married Edmund Ferris. Edmund b: 16 Mar 1824, NY, the son of Daniel and Roxy Ferris. Mary d: 27 Oct 1897 and Edmund d: 09 Jan 1898.      g. Sarah E. Spencer, b: 02 Apr 1842, NY. She married twice. She married first to Edgar Barnes. Edgar b: 20 Dec 1828, PA, the son of Wyatt Barnes and Harriet Middaugh. Edgar d: 12 Oct 1872 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Lounsberry, Tioga Co., NY (findagrave). Sarah married secondly to Frederick H. Catlin. Frederick b: 02 May 1837, Tioga Co., NY, the son of Nathaniel and Eleanor Catlin. Sarah d: and Frederick d: 11 Nov 1910.
