     *John Decker "JD" Spencer, born 04 Oct 1832, Orange Co., New York. John married firstly to Charity Goldsmith. Charity, born 23 Feb 1838, Chemung Co., New York, the daughter of Brewster Goldsmith and Sarah Shoemaker. They were listed in the 1860, Baldwin, Chemung Co., New York Census. Charity died on 11 Dec 1863. She is buried in the Mitchell's Corners Cemetery, Erin, Chemung Co., New York. John and Charity had three children; two of which died in infancy and are also said to be buried in the Mitchell's Corners Cemetery. They had one surviving daughter, she was:

John and his family migrated to Nebraska where they were listed in the 1870 Dakota City, Dakota Co., Nebraska Census, the 1880 Clifton, Pierce Co., Wisconsin Census, and the 1900 and 1910 Wakefield, Dixon Co., Nebraska Census records.      Wakefield, Nebraska Republican, October 25, 1917 "OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY": John D. Spencer Dies at His Home in Wakefield last Saturday-Was 85 years of age-John Decker Spencer was born in Orange County, New Jersey (New York), October 4, 1832. When quite young he married Charity Goldsmith and to this union three children were born, of whom only one, Mrs. Mary E. Harris, of Homer Nebr. survives. His first wife dying in 1863, Mr. Spencer married Harriett Carnrike on August 13, 1864. They moved to Nebraska in the spring of 1870, being among the first settlers of Dakota County. In 1875 they moved to Wisconsin, and lived there until 1898, when they moved back to Wakefield, Nebr., and here they remained until the end. Mr. Spencer had been failing for some two years, and for the last year had been very weak and ill. He quietly breathed his last in sleep on the 20th of October, 1917, at the advanced age of eighty-five years and sixteen days. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides the above named, a wife and eight children, namely Frank H. Spencer, of Knapp, Wis.; Mrs. L. C. Cooley of Wakefield, Nebr.; Geo. Spencer of Anoka, Minn.; Mrs. Lillian Smith of Hudson, Wis.; Mrs. Leona Chase, Mrs. Ida Barto and Mrs. Della Barto, all of Wakefield, and Edgar Spencer, 4th U. S. Cavalry, Honolulu, HI. All but the latter were present at the funeral which was held from the house on Monday afternoon, Rev. Frank Williams, pastor of the M. E. church, officiating and singing being rendered by a quartette party from the choir of the same church. The body was laid to rest in the Wakefield cemetery. Besides the foregoing Mr. Spencer also leaves 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, and two aged sisters, living in York state.
