     * Thomas Treadway, born (1771-1780 Per 1830 Census), possibly in Washington Co., Virginia. He married Judith ____ (Tentative). Judith was born in 1780 (Per 1850 Census) in Tennessee. Thomas was listed in the 1794 and 1812 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Tax Lists. Thomas, as many others lived on the changing boarders of Sullivan Co., Tennessee and Scott Co., Virginia. Thomas and his family were listed in the 1830 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Census with 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-9, 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 30-39, 1 male 50-59, 1 female 20-29, 1 female 50-59. I cannot find their family after this. Judith was listed in the 1850 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records living with her son John and his family. 1. Edmund Treadway, born (1791-1800), Sullivan Co., TN (Tentative). He married Rachel Mainard on 18 Jul 1822 in Rhea Co., Tennessee. Rachel was born ca 1803 in North Carolina, the daughter of Jesse Mainard. Edmund was last listed in the 1830 Roane Co., Tennessee Census, the 1835 Roane Co., Tennessee Early Tax Lists, 1840 Roane Co., TN Census. Rachel was listed with her children in the 1850 Roane Co. TN Census. Their children were:

     a. Thomas Treadway, born: ca 1824, TN. He married Elizabeth Smith on 02 Jan 1845 in Roane Co, TN. Elizabeth was born Apr 1828, NC. Thomas died after the 1870 Census records. Children: William H., Andrew, Jane, Edmund T., James T., and Marion Treadway.

     b. Lucy Ann Treadway, born ca 1826, TN. She married Daniel Pleasant on 15 Oct 1846, Roane Co., TN. Daniel was born ca 1830 in NC. Children: John, Charles, Anderson, and Mary Pleasant.

     c. Margaret Jane 'Peggy" Treadway, born ca 1828, TN. She married Samuel Hardbarger on 02 Jan 1845, Roane Co., TN. Samuel was born ca 1826 in TN, the son of Daniel Hartbarger and Sarah "Sally" Treadway (Daughter of Robert Treadway and and Nancy Lynch). Peggy died in Jul 1859 of Consumption, and is buried in the Eagle Furnace Cemetery, Eagle Furnace, Roane Co., TN. Children: Rufus, Susan, Sarah C., Martha, Barbara "Barbary", and Mary Hartbarger.

     d. Jesse J. Treadway, born ca 1834, TN.

     e. John R. Treadway, born ca 1835, TN. He married Malinda Hughes on 02 Jan 1852, Rhea Co., TN. Malinda was born ca 1843, TN. John died 15 Jun 1863, and is buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren County, MS (Confederate Soldier). Malinda married secondly to Major Halloway. Children: William and Mary Treadway.

     f. Edmund Francis Marion Treadway, born 18 Feb 1840, Roane Co., TN. He married Eleanor "Ellen" Parker on 03 Dec 1860, Rhea Co., TN. Ellen was born ca 1840, TN. Edmund died on 12 Jul 1919, Republic, Green Co., MO. Children: Elizabeth M., Rachel P., Margaret A., William, Joseph A., Eli, and Mary E. Tredway.

     g. Levi J. Treadway, born Mar 1841. He married Mary Jane Fine on 18 Jul 1866 in Rhea Co., TN. Mary was born ca Feb 1844, TN, the daughter of John Fines. Levi died: 04 Nov 1909, Glenalice, Roane Co., TN, and Mary died on 29 Oct 1919, Rockwood, Roane Co., TN. She is buried in the Treadway Cemetery, Glen Alice, Roand Co., TN. Children: Charles D., Edward, Thomas, Amanda, Mary, Robert, and George Treadway.

     h. Joseph Albert Treadway, born 24 Mar 1844, TN. He married Susan Maria Britt on 13 Sep 1865, Roane Co., TN. Susan was born on 13 May 1848. Joseph died 28 Jan 1929, and Susan died on 25 Jan 1925. They both are buried in the Macks Chapel Cemetery, Sulphur Rock, Independence Co., AR. Children: Laura Rachel, John W., Eliza W., Hugh Woods, Sarah L., James Thomas, Joseph, Robert H., George W., James T., and Susan O. Treadway.

2. Catherine Treadway, born (1791-1800), TN (Tentative). She married ____ Sawyer, and was listed in the 1850 Buncombe Co., NC Census living with her brother John and his family.

3. Elizabeth Treadway, born (1791-1800), TN (Tentative). She married John Haupt. John was born before 1800. He was listed in the 1818 Scott Co., Virginia Property Tax Lists.

4. Amanda Melvina Treadway, born (1802-1814 Per Census Records), TN (Tentative). She married twice. She married first to A. McEntire/McIntire. Children:

John and Nancy's children were:

Matt was listed in the 1860 Sandy Mush PO, Buncombe Co., NC Census living with David M. and Elizabeth Duckett as well his siblings Nathaniel and Mary Treadway. He married three times. He married first to Delainie C. Alexander on 12 Mar 1859, Buncombe Co., NC. Delainie was born in 1837 in North Carolina, the daughter of James Alexander and Celia Hawkins. Matt married secondly to Margaret Malinda Sluder on 22 Mar 1861, Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Margaret was born in 1838 in Buncombe Co., NC, the daughter of Merritt Sluder and Minerva Mary Ensley. Their family was listed in the 1870 Leicester, Buncombe Co., NC Census and 1880 Sandy Mush, Buncombe Co., NC Census. Their family was listed in the 1870 Leicester, Buncombe Co., NC Census. I cannot find Nathaniel and Mary after this Census, however their children were living with their Grandparents and Aunt and Uncle in the 1880. Children: John and Rebecca M. Treadway.

     * Aaron Treadway born July 1809 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee, married Priscilla Davis on 04 Mar 1832 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Priscilla was born ca 1818 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, the daughter of David and Rachel Davis. Both Aaron and Priscilla are listed in a legal document relating to David Davis, listed on my Davis Lineage Site. It is said that Priscilla was part Cherokee Indian. I was told a story by Randall Davis that Aaron and Priscilla met for the first time in Marshall, Buncombe/Madison Co., North Carolina.

      A Family History of William Garfield Treadway 1895-1962, by Judith Mae Braem Treadway December of 1993, Page 12:  "Aaron and Priscilla traveled into Kentucky. There, when Aaron "was only 24, he met up with Davy Crockett, then 40, wrestled him -- and won the match. As a trophy he received an iron fireplace oven". The story continues that "while Aaron and his wife still were in Kentucky, Sen. Abe Lincoln -- not too important at that time--passed through and stopped with them, and Priscilla cooked two turkey thighs for him in that same pot." It is also family tradition that Aaron went out and explored the west with "his cousin" David "Davy" Crockett.

     Aaron was a farmer and said to have been the first school teacher of Walnut, Buncombe/Madison Co., North Carolina. The old school house where Aaron used to teach school was on the hill above the Treadway Family Cemetery at Sandy Bottom. I was also told a story from Adolphus Treadway, son of George W. Treadway, that Aaron sold one of the first tickets at the train depot in Marshall. And Paul J. Treadway also told me that Aaron held the first court in Walnut ca 1850. Aaron died on 14 February 1907, and Priscilla died on 11 March 1907. They both are buried in the Harrison Family Cemetery aka Treadway Cemetery, at Sandy Bottom, Madison Co., North Carolina, on the property of Adolphus Treadway. The cemetery is a few miles off of Doe Branch Road. Aaron and Priscilla's children were born in Buncombe now Madison Co., North Carolina. They were:

1. Rebecca L. Treadway, born: 05 Jan 1835, died: 09 Jan 1925, married Rev. Woodward William Ramsey on 21 July 1851 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Their family was listed in the 1860 and 1870 Madison Co., North Carolina Census, and the 1880 Stantonsburg, Yancey Co., North Carolina Census Records. Rebecca was listed in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census Records. Rebecca died on 09 Jan 1925 (Death Liber 12, page 11),and is buried in the Station Cemetery. Woodward was born on 01 Jan 1831 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, the son of Jobe Ramsey and Mary Woodward. Woodard died on 17 July 1885. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Their children were:

     a. Eliza Jane Ramsey, born: 08 Jun 1853, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married twice. She married fist to Thomas J. Rice. Thomas was born on 05 Feb 1845 in North Carolina the son of Joseph and Matilda Rice. Thomas died on 06 Feb 1915. Eliza married second to Mitchell Chandley. Eliza died on 08 Feb 1945. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Hezikiah Rice.

     b. Jasper N. Ramsey, born: 30 August 1854, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Lucinda J. "Luesy/Lucy" Allen. Luesy was born in 1862 in North Carolina, the daughter of James Allen and Rachel Riddle. Jasper died on 29 June 1893 and is buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Elus/Alice E., Reagan Newton, Anna A., Adeline "Addie", and Wade Hampton Ramsey.

     c. Rachel Emeline Ramsey, born: 01 June 1856, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Emery G. Chandler. Emery was born on 04 Mar 1850 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, the son of Solomon Chandler and Jennie Landers. Rachel died on 13 February 1939, and Emery died on 05 Mar 1944. They both are buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Robert, Woodard Alexander, Ida Bell, James Clyde, Sam, Daniel, Loyd, Andrew, Paul, Burt W., and Luther Chandler.

     d. Christina Priscilla "Tennie" Ramsey, born: 16 February 1860, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Henry Jackson Anders. Henry was born on 24 Mary 1861, Buncombe Co., North Carolina, the son of Jasper Anders, and Margaret Angel. Christina died on 09 January 1941, and Henry died on 02 September 1925. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Thomas Jackson, Lousiana "Annie", James, Lillie Mae, Katherine Evelyn, John Henry, and Margaret Loretta "Etta" Anders.

     e. James J. Ramsey, born: 1862, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Sarah Emeline "Emma" Morris on 06 August 1882 in Madison Co., North Carolina. Sarah was born on 09 October 1865, the daughter of Zebedee William Morris and Emeline Williams. James died before the 1900 Census, and Emma died on 31 Jul 1949. She is buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Asheville, Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Children: George H. and Walter Ruble Ramsey.

     f. David Franklin Ramsey, born: 23 June 1863, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Dockery. Eliza was born on 09 Jan 1869 in Greeneville, Greene Co., Tennessee, the daughter of William Dockery. David died on 30 August 1944 and is buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina, and Eliza died on 21 Aug 1941. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Maud B., Oscar Lankford, Woodward William, Mary Ethel, Jerome Marvin, Winona L., Irene Octoria, Ella M., Thelma, Joseph Franklin "Buster", Myrtle G., and Howard R. Ramsey.

     h. Malcom Mathew "Mallie" Ramsey, born: 17 March 1868, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Catherine Mae "Kate" Thomas. Kate was born on 27 May 1870 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the daughter of David Thomas and Rosanna "Rose" Dockery. He died on 12 April 1956, and Kate died on 31 Dec 1959. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Bertie Edna, Nora E., Cora Lee, Agnes, Herman Claude, Robert Arthur, Carl Finley, Cleveland McFee, and Wanda Ramsey.

Fina died on 10 April 1961 (Death Liber 46, page 4), and John died on 15 March 1950 (Death Liber 36, page 01). They both are buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. 2. David Franklin Treadway, born: 17 Oct 1837, died: 07 June 1897, and is buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. David was a soldier during the Civil War in Co C, 64th North Carolina Infantry. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 15 July 1862 in Madison Co., North Carolina. David was captured on 09 Sept 1863, and was a prisoner of War in Louisville, Kentucky, and then transferred to Camp Douglas in Illinois on 24 Sept 1863. David married twice. He married first Louisa Ramsey on 20 Sept 1856 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Louisa was born: 1839, died: 1872. Their children were:

     a. James Franklin Randall Treadway, born: 1858, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Mary "Mollie" Harrison on 18 May 1878 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Mollie was the daughter of Jesse Harrison and Alethia Caroline "Caroline" Hawkins. Children: Lelia Agnes, and Oscar Robert "Ossie" Treadway. Mollie married secondly to Robert Smith ca 1904 per the 1910 Hot Springs, Madison Co., North Carolina Census records.

     b. Morgan T. "Matt" Treadway, born: 17 September 1859, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Mary Eugene McClure on 15 January 1880 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Mary was previously married to James Fritz. Mary was born on 04 November 185 in North Carolina. Morgan died 06 April 1915. Mary was living with her son Frank in the 1920 Shady Spring, Releigh Co., West Virginia Census records. Mary died on 16 May 1932. Children: Lela Brankie, Francis, Magnolia "Nola", Frank Robert, and John P. Treadway.

     c. Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Treadway, born: Jun 1861, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married John Wesley Wardrup. John was born: 1856 in North Carolina, the son of Soloman Peter Wardrup and Lydia Malinda Reeves. Their family was listed in the 1860-1900 Madison Co., North Carolina Census Records. Sis died sometime after the 1900. John remarried Sarah C. ____ in 1909. John died on 05 Aug 1915 in Madison Co., North Carolina. Sis and John's children were: David Morgan, James Wesley, William M., Jasper, Alec "Eck", Willard Woodward, Lucille Mae, and Robert Alonzo Wardrup.

     d. Priscilla "Allie" Treadway, born: 1864, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Barney Thomas on 19 February 1881 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Barney was born in 1862 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of Green Thomas and Melinda Landers. Allie died in 1884. They both are buried in the Landers Cemetery, Lumptown, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Katherine Thomas.

     e. Joseph Treadway, born: 1872, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Stella Lundsford 09 August 1896 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records).

     f. William M. "Bill" Treadway, born: 1873, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. He married first to Mary Roberts on 13 December 1891 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Mary was born on 19 January 1873, the daughter of Hood Roberts and Vera Rector. Mary died on 26 March 1930 (Death Liber 17, page 05). Children: Robert, Joseph Woodward "Paul", Taskie, Arvilla, and Viralena Treadway. Bill married second to Gertie Rathbone on 29 July 1934 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Bill died on 21 July 1940 (Death Liber 26, page 94). They had one daughter born almost nine months after his death. She was Birtie Treadway, who was born and died on 04 April 1941 (Death Liber 27, page 155), and is buried in the Big Pine Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina.

    David married second Betty Elizabeth Paine on 02 Feb 1873 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Betty was born: 08 June 1851 in North Carolina, the daughter of Daniel Paine and Sallie Lunsford. After David's death, Betty married John Taylor Anderson. She died on 24 Jan 1927, and is buried with David in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. David and Betty's children were:

     g. Sarah Belle Treadway, born: 09 March 1874, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married twice. She married first to S. Furman Kent. Furman was born on 18 February 1871 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of John Kent and Lydia Roberts. Furman died on 05 November 1951 in Union Co., South Carolina. They divorced. Children: Lottie Adeline, Minnie Lucretia, Starling Monroe, Dennis Edward, DeWitt G., Ruth F., Alonzo Garland, Vista Mordecie, and Flossie Kent. Sarah married second to George Washington Stines. George was born on 01 Jun 1879 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of James Stines and Myrtle Massey. Sarah died on 10 February 1942, and Geroge died on 20 Jan 1947. They both are buried in the Rosemont Cemetery, Union Co., South Carolina.

     h. Myra Bebe Treadway, born: 30 December 1874, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Franklin Stines. Franklin was born on 21 April 1870 in North Carolina, the son of Jacob Stines and Hulda Lunsford. Myra died on 01 May 1939, and Franklin died on 25 January 1934. They both are buried in the Rosemont Cemtery, Union Co., South Carolina. Children: Vida A., John Carley, James H., Laura Loretta, Beverly, Fullard Spurgeon, Clarence Glenn, Mary Elizabeth, and Maggie Stines.

     i. Amos Zachariah Treadway, born: 21 July 1877, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. He married first to Dora Farr on 27 Jun 1905 in Unicoi Co., Tennessee, and was living in Union Co., South Carolina in 1920. He married second to Tennie Sams on 01 October 1924 in Madison Co., North Carolina. Tennie was born on 14 October 1899, the daughter of William Sams and Orphia Dockery. Amos died on 08 September 1965 in Asheville, Buncombe Co., North Carolina (Death Liber 50, page 144), and Tennie died on 28 December 1960, also in Asheville (Death Liber 46, page 127). They both are buried in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, North Carolina. Zack and Tennie's children: Maybelle, and Jessie Luella Treadway.

     j. Tempra Lora "Lora" Treadway, born: 27 October 1878, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Zebulon Baxter "Roy" Freeman. Roy was born on 07 April 1878 in North Carolina, the son of Benjamin Franklin Freeman and H. Payne. Lora died on 24 March 1959 (Death Liber 44, page 101), and Roy died on 07 April 1959 (Death Liber 44, page 102). They both are buried in the Gig Payne Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Floyd Emsly, Beverly, Clifford, Vernard Coy, Ernie F., Levie Harold, Oakley, and Ola Freeman.

     k. Eliza E. Treadway, born: 17 October 1884, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Jerry Redmon. Jerry was born on 07 August 1865. Eliza died on 11 July 1960, and Jerry died on 06 March 1930. They both are buried in the Dry Pond Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children together: Edith, Ida Lee, Jerry Marshall, and Fred William Redmon. Note: Jerry was married twice before he married Eliza. His children from a previous marriage were: Jimbo W., Catherine Robena, and Olson Zack, Edith E., Ida Lee, Jerry Marshall, Fred William Redmon.

     l. John Wesley Aaron Treadway,born: 18 May 1887, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Nancy Jane Rector. Nancy was born on 25 October 1888 in North Carolina, the daughter of George Rector and Sally Lunsford. John died in 1960, and Nancy died in 1970. They both are buried in the Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Union Co., South Carolina. Children: Doyle, Sallie Elizabeth, George Winston, Curtis Edgar, John Andy, James Clyde, Jerry Ray, Joy Rue, and Wesley Tony Treadway.

Cora was previously married to Lawson Kent. Cora was born on 14 Oct 1887 in North Carolina, the daughter of James Revis and Mary Sophronia Elkins.. Charlie died on 04 Jul 1980, and Cora died on 06 Feb 1974, both in Hendersonville, North Carolina. They are buried in the Shepherd Memorial Park Cemetery, Hendersonville, Henderson Co., North Carolina. Children: Robbie Lee Treadway.

     n. Hezekiah Manuel Treadway, born: 26 May 1891, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Hattie Fore on 18 March 1911. Hattie was born on 25 May 1888 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Joseph D. Fore and Susan L. Mintz. Hattie died in March 1972, Union Co., South Carolina. Children: Ruby Raye, Elvie Elizabeth, Mary Christine, Cora Opal, and Clarence Edmond Treadway. Hezekiah later became partners with Gladys Breland. Hezekiah died on 09 May 1965 in Aiken, South Carolina.

     o. Curtis Stephen Treadway, born: 07 October 1894, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. Curtis married first to Susan Roseann Fore. Susan was born on 05 February 1893, the daughter of Joseph D. Fore and Susan L. Mintz. Susan died on 09 Feb 1963, and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, South Carollina. They had a set of twins who died at birth. Curtis and Susan divorced. He married second to Pauline Walker on 01 October 1920 in Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina. Pauline was born on 07 March 1902 in Cherokee, South Carolina, the daughter of John P. Walker and Mary A. Becknell. Curtis died on 30 December 1968, and Pauline died on 25 August 1994. They both are buried in the Union Memorial Cemetery, Union Co., South Carolina. Children: Curtis Stephen, Luther, Robert Rion, David Henry, Ann, and Douglas Eugene Treadway.

3. James M. Treadway,> born: 12 Dec 1839, died: 22 May 1879, and is buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Mary Polly Crane/Crain on 18 Sept 1859 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co. NC Marriage Records). Mary was born: 1840, the daughter of Jesse Crane/Crain and Susie Bird/Byrd. Note: There is some controversy so it seems on the Craine/Crain name. Someone crossed out the name of Crane in the Death Liber at the Madison Co. Courthouse and wrote Crowe. From a GenForum posting by Diane Whisnant, she states the following: "My grandmother is the granddaughter of James Treadway and Mary Crain. She is 94 and still living and doing well I must say. I have the death certificate of Mary and know that it lists her father as Jesse Crowe. My grandmother knew her grandmother well and she says that her maiden name was definitely Crain. Note: James and Mary's Marriage License has her last name as Crain, and the Roberts and Crane Book written in 1955 gives Mary's name as Crane. Joseph Cephus Crane brother of Mary, married Rachel Ann Roberts. The 1860 Madison Co., NC Census also shows in household #765 the name of Jesse Crane. And another side note: James' military papers state his wife was Mary Crane (Compliments of Garnett Sprinkle). Mary died: 30 Dec 1927 (Death Liber 14, page 34), and is buried in the same cemetery as James. Their children were:

     a. Matilda Sofina Treadway, born: 11 June 1861, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married William Walton Barzil Smith. William was born on 18 Dec 1858 in McDowell Co., North Carolina, the son of Minor Smith and Sarah Salmon. Matilda died on 10 May 1931, and William died on 17 Mar 1933. They both are buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Hester, Luther, America, Walter, Essie, Robert Frank, and Bettie Smith.

     b. Augusta Loretta Treadway, born: 29 March 1863, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married John Calvin Smith. John was born in 1863, the son of Minor Smith and Sarah Salmon. Augusta died on 24 May 1943.

     c. Andrew Jackson Treadway, born: 10 August 1865, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Matilda "Tilda" Sams. Tilda was born on 28 February 1869 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Robert Sams and Polly Gosnell. Andrew died on 03 July 1948, and Tilda died on 16 July 1950. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Harrison, Addie Rosella, Mollie, Robert, Wade Frank, Sophronia, Earley Dugan, Magnolia "Noley", Luico, Hubert, Dora, and Mamie Lee Treadway.

     d. Eliza Emeline Treadway, born: 30 November 1869, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Robert Abraham Henderson, Jr. on 12 October 1884. Robert was born on 16 June 1865, the son of Robert Abraham Henderson and Liddia Roberts. Eliza died on 04 January 1959, and is buried in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Rock Hill, South Carolina. Robert died on 05 August 1936 and is buried in the Henderson Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: William Franklin, Charles Jonah, Christopher Columbus, Neta Belle, Bessie Mae, Amos Jackson, Naomi Lydia, and David Henderson.

     e. Hezekiah Karl Treadway, born: 16 September 1871, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Mollie C. Ramsey on 01 October 1898 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Mollie died on 1909, and Hezekiah died on 03 Oct 1945 in South Carolina. Children: Susan Ann, Laura, Bertie, and Allie Treadway.

     f. Adeline A. "Addie" Treadway, born: 28 May 1874, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married William Harrison Hardin. William was born in 1874 in Tennessee, the son of George and Jane Hardin. 4. Rachel F. Treadway, born: 05 Feb 1841, married Jobe Freeman on 13 Mar 1862 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co. NC Marriage Records). Jobe was born in 1843 in North Carolina, the son of Moses Freeman and Elizabeth Ramsey. Their family was listed in the 1870 and 1880 Madison Co., North Carolina Census records. Rachel died sometime after the 1880 Census. Jobe was listed in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census records. Their children were:

NC Marriage Records). Andrew was born: 12 Jan 1842 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of John "Obie" Paris and Nancy Brooks, died: 12 Oct 1919. Eliza and her family were listed in the 1880 Pine Creek, Madison Co., North Carolina Census. Eliza and A.J. are both buried in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Walnut, Madison Co., North Carolina.      d. William Woodard Paris, born: 30 August 1872, North Carolina. He married Mary Elizabeth Banks. Mary was born on 30 September 1878. William died on 17 August 1925 (Madison Co., NC Death Records, Bk. 12, pg. 211), and Mary died on 16 September 1918. They both are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina.      e. Nancy Priscilla "Nannie" Paris, born: 18 Sep 1874, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married twice. She married first to Adam C. Davault. Adam was born in Jul 1874 in Tennessee, the son of James Davault and Margaret Emmert. Their family was listed in the 1900 Sullivan Co., Tennessee Census records. Children: James A. Davault. Nannie married second to William Thomas Daniel. William was born on 14 Dec 1872 in Virgina. He was previously married to Katherine Stinson and had 4 children with her. Their family was listed in the 1910 Washington Co., Tennessee Census, and the 1920 and 1930 Erwin, Unicoi Co., Tennessee Census records. Nannie died on 21 Oct 1939, and William died on 11 Aug 1942. They both are buried in the Erwin Cemetery, Unicoi Co., Tennessee.

     h. Emma Elizabeth "Bette" Paris, born: 13 Jun 1881, Sandy Bottom, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married William Edward "Ed" McFall. Ed was born on 20 Mar 1881 in Hot Springs, Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of Marion Madison McFall and Sarah Turner.Bette died: 18 Feb 1952 in Greeneville, Greene Co., Tennessee (Madison Co., NC Death Records, Bk. 38, pg. 99), and Ed died on 16 Sep 1838. They both are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Hot Springs, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Newton, Cora, Ruth, Sarah, Paul, Martha and Mary McFall.

     i. Rachel Caroline Paris, born: 21 March 1883, Sandy Bottom, North Carolina. She married twice. She married first to Hugh Lee Curtis on 12 October 1904 in Madison Co., Tennessee. Hugh was born 07 October 1881 in Tennessee. Hugh died on 06 January 1912 in Middlesborough, Kentucky in a railroad accident. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee. They had one daughter: Juanita Kathleen Curtis. Rachel married second to James D. Witt in 1920. 6. Adolphus Ervin Treadway, born: 07 Feb 1844, married Sarah "Sally" Caroline Harrison on 19 Jan 1873. Sally was born on 13 Mar 1855, the daughter of Jesse Harrison and Alethia Caroline "Caroline" Hawkins. Sally died: 23 Jan 1928 (Death Liber 15, page 91). According to Adolphus and Cletus Treadway, Sally (their Grandmother), backed up to the stove to get warm and her gown caught on fire. She lived approx. 24 hours after the accident. Sally is buried in the Treadway Cemetery, Sandy Bottom, Madison Co., North Carolina. Adolphus became ill and went to stay with his sister in town, and died 16 Dec 1940. He is buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina, as he could not be taken up the mountain during the winter to be buried next to his wife. His handmade headstone, however has his date of birth as 1850. Their children were:

     b. Marinda Belle "Rinda" Treadway, born: 24 August 1876, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married William Ernest "Ernie" Ensley. Ernie was born on 18 December 1866, the son of Samuel Bruce Ensley and Rachel Pauline Cassada. Rinda died on 02 February 1963, and Ernie died on 16 May 1957. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Charles, Cora Lee, Cornelia, Nina, Pearl, Plato, Rota, Cletus E., Geter Palmer, and Harry Ensley.

     c. Mary Sophrona "Fronie" Treadway, born: Oct 1879, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Reagan Newton Ramsey. Reagan was born in 1877 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the son of Jasper N. Ramsey and Louisa Allen. They both are buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Roy, Jasper, Grover, Carrie, and Anna Ramsey.

     d. Charlie Jackson Treadway, born: 24 October 1882, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Hester Estella "Stella" Davis on 17 January 1904 in Madison Co., North Carolina (North Carolina Marriage Records). Stella was born on 09 December 1885, the daughter of Hezekiah Davis and Amanda J. Thomas. Charlie died on 05 September 1965 in Asheville (Death Liber 50, page 143), and Stella died on 15 March 1970 (Death Liber 55, page 128). Dock was born on 10 Sep 1865 in North Carolina, the son of William K. Ledbetter and Sarah Frady. Mary died on 28 March 1981, and is buried in the Station Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina.      g. George Washington Treadway, born: 23 October 1890, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. He married first to Grace Sawyer on 05 April 1923, Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Grace was born on 27 April 1902 in Stackhouse, Madison Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Grant Sawyer and Jane Anderson. Grace died on 14 December 1929, and is buried in the Treadway Family Cemetery, Sandy Bottom, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Clara Mae, Beatrice Arlene, Marie, George Harrison, and Sally Treadway. George married second to Grace Roberts.      h. Thomas Curtis/Curtis Thomas Treadway, born: 24 June 1894, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Pearl Heather Price. Pearl was born on 29 October 1896 in North Carolina, the daughter of John Price, and Hattie Carver. Curtis died on 21 November 1981 (Buncombe Co., NC Death Certificate #2078), and Pearl died on 27 June 1987 (Buncombe Co., NC Death Certificate #946), both in Asheville. Jobe was born in Apr 1876 in North Carolina the son of William Rice and Margaret Marlor. He died before the 1920 Census was taken in Fayette Co., West Virginia. Children: Frank William, Lloyd, Emma Katherine, Magnola "Nola", Violet Lorena, and Cora Ellen Rice. Fronia married secondly to William Johnson Bradley. Alice died on 09 January 1970 in West Virginia.

9. Andrew Hezekiah Jackson "Jack" Treadway, born: 28 Mar 1852, died: 21 Aug 1943, married Elizabeth Catherine Thomas on 20 Oct 1872 in Madison Co., North Carolina. Elizabeth was born: 15 Oct 1852, the daughter of John Thomas and Mary "Polly" Franks. I have been told that Hezekiah went by Jack. Elizabeth died: 24 Jan 1934 (Death Liber 20, page 84), she was killed by a train. The story told to me is that Elizabeth was almost completely blind. She used to walk the R.R. tracks to her daughter's house. When she would feel a train coming she would step off the tracks and squat beside them until the train passed. Sadly at the time of her death she did not move far enough away from the tracks and was struck by the steps of the caboose. Both Jack and Elizabeth are buried in the Thomas Cemetery, Stackhouse, Madison Co., North Carolina. Their children were:

     a. Robert Henry Treadway, born: 04 October 1874, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. He married first to Nancy Johnson, on 18 February 1893 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Their children were: William Garfield, Annie B., Andrew Jackson, James, and Ellison Treadway. Robert married second to Margaret M. (Thomas) Partnuau/Parton on 09 February 1913 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Margaret was born on 16 Jun 1871 in North Carolina, the daughter of Soloman Dudley Thomas and Martha E. Candler. Robert died on 02 August 1968, and Margaret died on 31 Aug 1963. They both are buried in the Hurst Cemetery, Middlesboro, Bell Co., Kentucky.

     b. Elizabeth Martha Treadway, born: 30 May 1876, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Daniel Shelton. Daniel was born in 1869 in Tennessee. Children: John, Cora M., Addie, Bessie, Essie, Magnolia, Arley, and Layald? Shelton.

     c. John Franklin Treadway, born: 10 March 1877, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Mary Elizabeth Thomas on 23 April 1898 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Mary was born on 24 July 1880 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the daughter of John W. Thomas and Lucinda Candler. John was a coal miner. John died on 12 November 1952, and Mary died on 06 April 1969, both in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. They both are buried in the Johnson-Cottrell Cemetery, Harrogate, Claiborne Co., Tennessee. Children: James Amos, Lattie Reagan, Emey Mae, Carrie, John Ervin, Ada, Retta, Etta, Dillard, Lucinda Louise, and Thurman Treadway.

     d. Jack Aaron Treadway, born: 15 June 1878, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married Lilly Thomas on 15 December 1901 in Madison Co., North Carolina (Madison Co., NC Marriage Records). Lilly was previously married to _____ Gahagen. Lilly was born on 15 February 1878, North Carolina, the daughter of Soloman Dudley Thomas and Martha E. Candler. Jack died on 19 March 1952 (Death Liber 38, page 157), and is buried in the Stackhouse Cemetery, Stackhouse, Madison Co., North Carolina. Lilly died on 10 January 1958 in Asheville. (Death Liber 44, page 271). Children that I have: Walter, Debbie Jane, Myrtle, David, Linnie, and Hubert Albert Treadway.

     e. Eliza Treadway, born: ca April 1881, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married William M. Dockery. William was born Jan 1878 in North Carolina the son of Elisha Dockery and Nancy Waddell. Children: Charlie D., and Lawrence D. Dockery.

     f. Catherine Belle "Kate" Treadway, born: 12 October 1882, Madison Co., North Carolina.

     g. Emma Mae Treadway, born: 16 Dec 1882, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Charles C. Price on 17 Aug 1898 in Stackhouse, Madison Co., North Carolina. Charles was born in Jan 1875 in Tennessee. Emma died on 22 Sep 1968 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina, and Charles died on 30 May 1953 in Michigan. Children: Rachel, Mamie, James, Manilla M., Harvey, Della, Fronie, Zale, and Georgia Lee Price.

     h. Mitchell T. Treadway, born: 02 October 1885, Madison Co., North Carolina. He died in 1918.

     i. Sarah Caroline Treadway, born: 06 June 1887, Madison Co., North Carolina.

     j. Thomas "Tommy" Treadway, born: 17 March 1889, Madison Co., North Carolina.

     k. Lillian Mae Treadway, born: 15 November 1890, Madison Co., North Carolina.

     l. Elmer Jackson Treadway, born: 12 November 1892, Madison Co., North Carolina. He married twice. He married first to Julia Gosnell. Julia was born on 01 August 1892 in Madison Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Tommy Gosnell and Rachel Landers. Julia died on 08 December 1974 (Death Liber 59, page 140). Elmer married second to Mary Anne "Polly" Woody. Elmer died on 23 April 1983. Both Elmer and Julia are buried in the Fortner Cemetery, Madison Co., North Carolina. Children: Edna, Everett, Margaret, Lonnie, Jesse James, Julia, Frances, Junior, Emma, John, and Bobby Frank Treadway.

     m. Rebecca "Becky" M. L. Treadway, born: 12 November 1892, Madison Co., North Carolina.

     n. Frances Emma Treadway, born: 16 December 1893, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Hanley Sparks on 18 Dec 1904.

     o. Linnie "Minnie" Treadway, born: 10 October 1895, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Sylvanes Ruby Gosnell. Ruby was born 15 March 1887, North Carolina. Minnie died on 23 February 1987, and Ruby died on 28 February 1943. Children: Starlin, and Opal Juanita Gosnell. Note: Linnie "Minnie" was really Andrew's Granddaughter (Thank you Claudia).

     p. Charlotte "Lottie" Treadway, born: 05 May 1898, Madison Co., North Carolina.

10. Matilda Caroline Treadway, born: 10 Sept 1854, Madison Co., North Carolina. She married Charles Benjamin Candler on 21 Sept 1872. Charles was the son of Zachariah Candler and Mary Amanda "Polly" Thomas. Their family went to Latah Co., Idaho. Matilda died on 29 Mary 1947, and Charles died on 18 May 1926, both in Latah Co., Idaho. Children:

     a. Thomas Jefferson Candler, born: 26 Nov 1872, Madison Co., NC. He married twice. He married first to Julia May Wilde. Julia was born 1872 in North Carolina, the daughter of Noah Wilde and Catherine Tillery. Julia died on 07 Feb 1913 in Gallatin Co., Montana. Children: Lester Ray Candler. Thomas married second to Mary May Calhoun. Mary was born on 18 Nov 1881 in Wyoming, the daughter of James and Lucille Calhoun. They lived on the Shoshone Wind River Reservation in Freemont Co., Wyoming. Mary was previously married to William Carpenter Jackson.

     b. James Mitchell Candler, born: 1875, Madison Co., NC. He married Susan Rachel "Susie" Daniels. Susie was born on 27 Feb 1887 in West Virginia, the daughter of David Hobart and Mary Ellen Daniels. James died in 1957 and Susie died on 28 Nov 1958 in Yellowstone Co., Montana. They both are buried in the Lavina Cemetery, Golden Valley Co., Montana. Children: Joseph Harley, James Earl, Hazel Martha, Erma M., Helen, and Irene Lucille Candler.

     c. Arthur R. Candler, born: 1877, Madison Co., NC, died 30 Mar 1914, Clark Co., Washington. He is buried in the Kendrick Cemetery, Kendrick, Nez Perce Co., Idaho.

     d. William Lloyd Candler, born: 03 Jul 1880, Madison Co., NC. He married Flora M. Waite on 15 Jul 1912 in Teakean, Clearwater Co., Idaho. Flora was born in Jan 1893, WA, the daughter of Daniel and Helen Waite. William died in Nov 1969. Children: Donald B., Bonnie M., Dorothy H., Bessie L., Floyd D., Orma Della, Leroy Dale, Willadean, and Neil L. Candler.

     e. Charles Edward Candler, born: 29 Jun 1880, Madison Co., NC. He was said to have married/partners with several women. He did marry Elizabeth Emma Brewer on 07 Dec 1918 in Flagstaff, Coconino Co., Arizona. Elizabeth was born on 26 Nov 1888 in Texas the daughter of Green W. Brewer and Virginia Garrison. Emma died on Feb 1981 in Jefferson Co., Texas. Their children were: Charles Edward, and David Garrison Candler.

     f. Porter Gifford "Peter" Candler, born: 14 Dec 1887, Madison Co., NC. He married Florence Alma Waite on 03 Jul 1910 in Latah Co., Idaho. Florence was born in 11 Jul 1892 in WA, the daughter of Danield and Helen Waite. Peter died on 16 Dec 1978, and Florence died in Jun 1980, both in Latah Co., Idaho. Children: Archibald G., Walter H., Verna May, Ada, Charles B., Joseph Franklin, Gerald David, James Lowell, and Gilbert L. Candler.

     g. Jeter Candler, born: 26 Dec 1889, Madison Co., NC. He married Emma Hazel Sutton on 30 Mar 1909 in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., Idaho. Emma was born in 1888 in Kansas. Jeter died in May 1979 in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., Idaho, and Emma died in Nov 1974 in Idaho. Children: Gladys M., and Eleanor Candler.

     h. Claud Harrison Candler, born: 20 Dec 1891, Madison Co., NC. He married Winifred Mudd. Winifred was born in 1894 in Washington, the daughter of Richard and Marie Mudd. Children: Claudia M., Juanita M., and Arthur Reagan "Ray" Candler.

     i. Wade H. Candler, born: 1894, Madison Co., NC. He married twice. He married first to Ida Susan Bond. Ida was born in Jun 1891,the daughter of Henry and Rachel Bond. Wade married second to Clara Belle Armitage on 23 Dec 1941. Clara was born on 18 Feb 1891 in Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Mary E. Armitage. Clara was previously married to a Mr. Bateman. Wade died in 03 Nov 1894, and Clara died on 26 Jul 1983, both in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., Idaho. Wade and Clara are buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Southwick, Nez Perce Co., Idaho. Wade and Ida's children were: Raymond Bert, Thelma W., Marie A., Irene, and Wade Candler.
