My Worley Lineage Descendants of Francis S. Worley *****************1st Generation***************** Francis S. Worley, born ca 1760. Many believe he was born in York Co., Pennsylvania, the son of Nathan Worley and Abigail Lott. Francis married Mary Polly Brown. Polly was born on 20 Dec 1764 in New Garden, Guilford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Joseph Brown and Ann Jones (Quaker Monthly Meeting Index - Cane Creek Monthly Meeting Records). Polly's father Joseph Brown mentioned his daughter Polly Worley in his Will dated 1812, proved in 1814 in Williamson Co., Tennessee where he leaves her and her heirs "a negro child named Matilda", and a rifle to his grandson Joseph Worley. Francis was in the Burke Co., North Carolina area around 1776, and listed in the 1790 Burke Co., North Carolina Census records, with 3 males under 16, 1 male over 16, and 2 females under "Frank" Worley. In 1792 that part of Burke Co., North Carolina became Buncombe Co., North Carolina. His family was then listed in the 1800 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records with 1 male 10-16, 2 males 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female 26-45. Francis was a tub maker. He purchased 300 acres of land on Worley's Creek in Buncombe Co. on 04 Jun 1796, and 100 acres of land on both sides of the Swanannoa River in Buncombe Co. on 06 Jul 1797 from James Dixon. Francis sold his 300 acres of land on Worley's Creek to Job Brevard on 22 Jan 1799. Note: I found 2 deeds one dated 17 Mar 1797 in which Francis (Fr. Worley) was a witness to his father-in-law Joseph Brown's purchase of 50 acres on Bull Creek, Buncombe Co., North Carolina from Thomas Rogers. The other deed dated 29 May 1801 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina in which Francis (F. Worley) witnessed between his father-in-law Joseph Brown of Montgomery Co., Tennessee (defunct) and Thomas Alexander of Buncombe Co., North Carolina for 50 acres on Bull Creek. These are part of the puzzle that has been missing for me. Most of the 1810 U.S. Census for Tennessee were lost or destroyed except for Grainger and Rutherford Counties so there is no census information on the family. Francis was next mentioned in several deeds in Williamson Co., Tennessee as a "Locator". Within a Deed of William Clerk's land purchase, Francis was mentioned as living on an improvement on the West side of Turnbull Creek in Dickson Co., Tennessee, beginning at a Black Oak with the initials of F. W. (Joseph Brown purchased 20 acres of land that same day on the East side of Turnbull Creek). Francis and his family were next listed in the 1820 Hickman Co., Tennessee Census with 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 45+, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-25, and 1 female 45+, and the 1830 Hickman Co., Tennessee Census records with 1 male under 5, 2 males 5-9, 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 70-79, 2 females under 5, 1 female 20-29, 1 female 60-69, and 1 female 90-99 (Ann Jones Brown?). Francis purchased 100 acres of land on Duck River in Hickman Co., Tennessee on 10 Feb 1836, and another 100 acres Lick Creek on 16 Oct 1841. I am not able to find anything else of Francis after that date. His son Stephen appears to have purchased his land almost identical to Francis' but earlier on 05 Dec 1835. I believe the 1836 land sale is when Stephen migrated to Maury Co., Tennessee. Also, there was a Mary Worley listed in the 1850 Hickman Co., Tennessee Mortality schedule (Feb 1850) listed as 90 years old. Could this be Mary? I believe it may be. Click here to view Francis's land deeds 1. Nathan Worley, (See 2nd Generation), born (1775-1784 per 1800 Census) 17 Oct 1780, in Burke Co., North Carolina. 2. That deed states that this land butts up against David's land. Catherine and David's family were listed in the 1810, and the 1820 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records. Catherine died ca 1823 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina. David later married Rachel Harrison. Rachel was previously married to Joseph Snelson. He also appears to be the son listed in the 1830 Census as a male 20-29. In that census was also a female listed in the same year range with younger children listed in that household. I believe that female is Rachel G. _____. Rachel appears as head of the household in 1840 Hickman Co., Tennessee Census. She appears next in the 1850 Hickman Co., Tennessee Census, the 1860 Dist 4, Hickman Co., Tennessee Census and the 1870 Dist 2, Hickman Co., Tennessee Census records. a. Anna Worley, born (1790-1800 per 1800 Census) in Burke Co., North Carolina. Anna married Meady "Meddy" White on 02 Jan 1812 in Williamson Co., Tennessee. Meddy White was a witness to Joseph Brown's dead on 03 Mar 1813 in Williamson Co., Tennessee along with Francis Worley. And, the James Norris that was also mentioned in that deed was Meddy's brother-in-law married to his sister Elizabeth. Anna was listed as head of household in the 1830 Hickman Co., Tennessee Census records with 1 male 10-14, 2 females 5-9, 1 female 10-14, and 1 female 30-39 (on the same page as Francis Worley), so it appears that Anna may be a widow. Also, looking at the 1830 Census it appears that Meddy was married previously as there was the male listed as 10-14 years of age. 6.
