Through a fantastic scenery we drive today to the mountain
village Dimitsana. But first we go to the old Olympia with it's museum. The excavation
is enormous and impressive, but they could have restored just a
little bit more.
We leave Olympic behind us and start driving into the mountains.
We first start off for the Apollo temple near Vasse. It is a big
disappointment when we finally arrive there and find out that the
temple is all covered with a tent. Inside the tent (500 drahme
each) we face the second disppointment, because the temple is
also totally surrounded by scaffolding. But through all of the
iron you can see that it must have been quit a building.
The day continuous with yet another disappointing event. We
thought to enjoy lunch in Andritsana, but it was terrible.
Fortunate that was the last of that series of events.
Above the village Karitena we climbed to the castle (remains) on
a hughe rock. It was a bit warm, but the view made it worth while
and as a reward we were offered a nice cold glass of water in the
local Taverna.
From here the route goes straight to Dimitsana over a 25 km long
road. It is very quit and count only 4 cars. Dimitsana is a small
village high up in the mountains, with a nice view over the
surroundings. The temperature is wonderfull and after we have had
diner, together with a couple who is doing the same trip, we
enjoy a very quiet good night sleep.

Dimitsana
is a beatiful mountain village. It is situated on a hight
of about 1000m. en gives you a great view on the narrow
valley through which a small river flows. High above the
village ther is a monastry, where moncks around 1800
started to produce gunpowder for the sake of rebellion
againsr the Trukisch regime. The hills of the Menalo-mountain are covered with pine-forest.Together with the luxurious houses it looks like Zwitserland or Austria. |
