Peloponnesos Fly and Drive 4th Day

After picking up some money and filling up the car, we are ready to go. Again we drive through a magnificient scenery. Very green, high mountains (with even some snow on their tops) en large pine-trees. Our first stop is at "Cave of the Lake" The tour is not much, but the cave is very nice. There were even some bats inside.
We continue our trip and head for the village Kalavrita. There we first visit the Monastry Agia Lavra. There is not to much to be seen. A small museum with some juwelry. Outside at the graveyard there is a charnel-house, where they keep the bones and scules of their deads.
Next stop is the Monastry Mega Spileon, beatiful situated agains/in the mountains. Enthusiastic moncks show us everything.
We continue towards the coast (north). Again it is very quiet on the road. We have lunch in a small taverna along this road. The owner does not have much to eat, but let us look for ourself in the fridge. We choose for the greek salad, bread and an omelet.
The last part to Korinthos we drive along the coast. Halfway we stop and lay on the beach for an hour. The water is very clear and cold, but there is a strange layer floating on top. But what to bother, the sun is shining and we have a good time.
In Korithos we first go and see the channel. We are lucky that just as we are there a tanker is commimg by.
The city of Korithos is a bit of a disappointment. It is very crowded and noisy. We eat on a terras, with cars driving by on just 10 m behind us. After a short walk we sit again on a terras for a drink and after that head back for the hotel to have a good nights sleep.

Monisp Mega Spileone
The view, when you arrive, is a perfect gift-offering from the monastery.
You' re 1000 metres above sea level. Behind you an enormous building resembling a fortress rises to eight storeys within a gaping cavern in a towering clift; this is the legendary monastery. Built in 362, it has since remained firmly wedged in Greek history.
The 17th century monastery church has wonderful, if damaged frescoes, mosaic floors and a bronze door with relief decoration.'The icon of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child in her right arm is a relief made of wax and mastich, attributed to St. Luke. The monastery museum contains holy relics and treasures, an icon screen of great age, carved wooden crosses, venerable manuscripts, Gospels.

Channel of Korinth
This is the 6km long channel connecting the gulf of Saroni and the Gulf of Korith. It has been opened since 1893 and it saves boats a daytrip around the Peloponnesos.
