Rain. Right after breakfast it started and it stopped only halfway in the afternoon. We first drove to the excavation of Old Korinth, but due to the rain didn't went in. The next stop is Nemea, but unfortunate we take a wrong turn when we were almost there and found ourselves driving on the toll-road back to Korinth and can only leave this road when we are back in Korinth. It is still raining and we decide also to skip Nemea and head right away for Mycenea. Except for the burial circels and the lion's gate we found the place not that much interesting. At a small distance we also visited the burial mound and that was more impressive.
Next we drive on to Epidauros with its famous theatre. The place is indead very beautiful. When you stand below it isn't looking that big, but if you climbe up the seats to the top ring you realise its real proportions and superbe acoustics. The excavations around the theatre are the best we have seen uptill then. Most people visiting Epidauros just go for the theater and forget about the rest. The archaeologists are trying to restore this place and they have rebuild already some parts. As a visotor you can walk around and see what they are doing.
The night is spend in Nafplion. A cute place with small streets, shops and terasses. When we went out for diner that night it started to rain again, so we had to eat inside. Fortunate we find a nice place with good atmosphere and food.
We try to get some sleep but find it difficult with all the
traffic and other hotel-guests who make quite some noise.

View from the top ring of the Epidauros theater You can see some people standing in the middle of the arena and we could hear the talk clearly even if the spoke with a low voice. |
