INSTRUCTION No. 2-2
WEAR OF THE FIELD UNIFORM
Purpose: This instruction is issued to provide Brigade members guidance on the proper wear of the Field Uniform at US Service Command activities in Virginia.
1. Field Uniform: The Field Uniform will be worn as a utility uniform for training and emergency operations when directed by the Brigade Commander.
2. Uniform Components: The Field Uniform will consist of the following items:
a. Woodland color pattern patrol cap. Bright metal insignia of rank will be worn centered on the front of the cap above the band. The cap may have ear flaps for wear during cold weather. The cap will be worn centered on the head, and will not be starched or blocked.
b. Woodland color pattern jacket cut shirt. Sleeves may be worn either up in a roll that shows the outside cloth or with the sleeves down at the direction of the unit commander based on local conditions. Absent other direction, wear of sleeves rolled up is authorized year round.
(1) embroidered or pin-on subdued color rank insignia will be worn on both sides of the collar; for officers and warrant officers the vertical axis of the insignia will parallel the front lower edge of the collar with the lower edge of the insignia one inch from the collar edge; for enlisted personnel the chevrons will be centered on a line bisecting the collar from the point and and with the bottom of the insignia one inch up from the point.
(2) black name tapes with the individual’s last name on the wearer’s right and the initials U.S.S.C. on the left will be worn immediately above the pockets.
(3) a black and gold embroidered USSC shoulder sleeve insignia will be worn on the left shoulder, centered on the sleeve, one half inch below the top of the shoulder seam.
(4) a full color Brigade patch will be worn centered on the left pocket.
(5) embroidered or pin-on military qualification and skill badges will be worn centered in a row vertically above the wearer’s left pocket name tape, with the lower badge approximately one quarter inch above the name tape and with half inch spacing between the badges. Up to four badges may be worn, three above the pocket, and one on the pocket flap. Order in which badges are worn and the color of the embroidery shall be as set by the regulations of the awarding service. The pattern of insignia worn (pin-on or embroidered) should be the same as the pattern of rank insignia worn.
c. Brown tee shirt.
d. Woodland pattern trousers with cargo pockets. Trousers will be bloused using blousing bands.
e. black web belt with black metal buckle.
f. black or green boot socks.
g. black leather or black or green nylon boots. Boots will be polished.
3. Wear of the Uniform: The field uniform is not intended for wear for normal training or emergency response work in emergency operations centers, and its use will be carefully considered to avoid confusion with the wide variety of other organizations that wear battle dress utility uniforms. General wear in public is not authorized. When worn the uniform will be pressed, and dry cleaning is strongly recommended to preserve name tapes and colored insignia in good condition.
