Hey Arnold! @ Nicktoon Snark
Spelling Bee
by SpiderBraids
On stage, we have three contestants. Helga, Arnold, and some kid named Seymour Stump, which I remember as that kid who got shoved in ["Helga on the Couch"]. Anyways, Stump is up first with "pasquinade". Gerald, drinking a soda, is sure no kids can spell that one. Well, Stump does. Gerald has an "Eh?" look.

As he bows over, however, Stump drops an hearing aid he had in his ear, connected with his mom reading a dictionary outside. Security quickly dispatches of one cheat, but another is brewing just off stage. Big Bob is calling over Arnold, so Arnold gestures to Helga and goes behind the curtain. Big Bob tells him, "Suppose you missed your next word, but somebody paid you the prize money anyway. ... There must be something you wanna buy with those 500 smackers." And Arnold imagines himself playing the keyboard with a 6th grade girl named Ruth MacDougal sitting on it. The man gives him a $500 check and Arnold leaves.

Back outside, he thinks about the check... and throws it on the floor. (Big Bob gestures: "Oh no you don't.") And no one seems to notice this serious cheat. Grandma is wearing a soldier's outfit now, as Arnold takes his next word. It is "onomatopoeia". Here goes... and Arnold spells correctly. The crowd? Goes wild. Meanwhile, Helga is inspecting the check she just found, and realizes, "he didn't think I could do it on my own!" (Big Bob is ripping up the curtains as she speaks.) Yes, but Arnold isn't taking the check, so the game is still fair. Next word!

Next word, is "qualm". Bob knows this is a gimme for Helga. Then again, so was "beagle" for Charlie Brown. The result is the same: somehow, Helga misses the gimme, although unlike Brown, her miss was deliberate, with her version ending with an "x". How no one notices this? Is beyond every viewer. Arnold is a bit surprised at the win. So anyways, Arnold takes home the yoooge trophy (the misspelled banner is still hanging), and as Big Bob is busy chiding Helga for missing a word that should have been a gimme for her, a bunch of random people mob Bob for their free beepers, as Helga hands over Olga's medal. Start running, Bob...

With the huge trophy tied to his Grandpa's car, Arnold hopes Helga's not too upset. Cut to Helga doing a Linda Weaver dance in front of the auditorium. And that is all.
