Part One: Define character

  1. Choose a Clan
There is no cost for the choice of a clan.
All characters belong to a clan. Ask a storyteller if there is a specific clan that they are looking for, or if there is one that is not being allowed. Since most cities and, therefore the chronicles, are run by the Camarilla, choose from the Camarilla clans.

  2. Choose a Generation
The players are given 13th generation for free. It costs 2 points per generation lower than 13th. Unlike other traits, generation cannot be lowered using points once the game has started. Players need to speak to a storyteller if they want their characters to be 10th generation or lower. Generation is considered a "background trait"; therefore, players may use their "background points" to lower their generation. For further information on "background traits" and "background points" see Part 3 Choose Background Traits.

Generation refers to how far removed a kindred is from Caine, who is suspected to be the original vampire; hence, the greater the number, the further removed a character is from Caine and therefore, weaker.

  3. Choose a Nature and Demeanor
There is no cost for the choice of a nature and demeanor.
Nature and demeanor represent the general personality of a character. The nature is the character's true self, while the demeanor is the outward facade that most people see.
