While it was great for my father to be there with me at Gettysburg in October, we were both disappointed that my brther, Randy couldn't have been there as well. We had been to Normandy Beach earlier, and took a great shadow beach shot of the three of us there. Anyway, my father was there having never seen the battlefield before. Turns out after my trip in April, I had become an expert on the battle and the geography of the town. While Dad was impressed with the site of Normandy, standing on the very beach where so many U.S. soldiers were killed, he was speechless standing on the Highwater Mark of Pickett's Charge looking across the field. While it's one thing to see the battle in movies, or read about them in books, it's quite another to actually stand and see it for yourself. Dad plans on coming back next year, and this time bringing Mom. Now knowing how close it is, he wants to visit Harper's Ferry and maybe Antitem. That should be an experience, too...
