More Pictures

When I was a little girl, I would go over the Meadows with my friends on warm summer afternoons. We would walk down Northwood Street, down the twitchell (alley) by the side of the abattoir, past the farm and over the mill bridge. Once over the stile, we crossed the railway bridge and there we were. We fished for Sticklebacks (little fishes) in the cut (canal).

This is the farm at the end of the twitchell. The houses in the background are old Victorian villas.

The Old Mill Cottage

This cottage lies across the road from the farm. I was amazed to find, when I was researching my Attenborough ancestry, that my 4x great grandparents, James and Elizabeth Attenborough, had lived here.

Thank you for looking at my gallery.

Many thanks to Mark the Plumber for scanning these pictures for me (I really am getting a scanner, honestly!!)

I visit Stapleford and the surrounding district regularly. Anyone wanting photographs that are not here, please e-mail me with the specific location, and I'll see what I can do.
