"Hello, Riker residence, Sara speaking?" Sara picked up the phone
in her house.
"Sara? This is Dani," the voice on the other end said.
"Dani, hi!" Sara greeted her friend.
"I was wondering if maybe you could come with me and Marie?"
Dani asked. "We’re going to take Shisou on a tour of the city.
Show her around and stuff. Want to come?"
Sara frowned. "Sorry," she apologized, "but I promised
my mom that Chrysta and I would run some errands for her today."
"Oh," Dani said. "Would you guys mind if we tagged along?"
"Not at all," Sara replied.
"Great!" Dani answered. "We’ll meet at your house, okay?"
"Sure!" Sara said. "Bye!" She hung up and turned
to Chrysta, who was waiting on the couch.
"Can we go now?" Chrysta asked. "If we don’t hurry up,
all the stores are going to close and go out of business!"
"Chrysta, it’s only 12:00 noon," Sara explained, exasperated.
"Stores don’t close at 12."
"If they’re operated by social paths, they do," Chrysta said.
Sara rolled her eyes. "You mean sociopaths, right?"
Chrysta nodded. "I guess Shiloe taught you that?"
"Yeah," Chrysta answered. "She’s smart. Smarter than
you, right?"
"Whatever," Sara muttered, flopping down on the couch.
"So are we going to go now?" Chrysta tugged at Sara’s sleeve.
"We’re waiting," Sara replied.
"For what?" Chrysta prodded.
"Dani, Marie, and Shisou," Sara answered. "They’re coming with
us."
"Why?" Chrysta asked.
"Just because!" Sara said. Just then, she heard a knock
on the door.
"That’s them!" Chrysta jumped up from the couch and ran to open
the door. Flinging it open, she saw Dani, Marie, and Shisou, just
as Sara had said. "Hi!" Chrysta said brightly. "Sara’s inside."
"Hey, Sara," Dani said. "Ready to go?"
"Sure," Sara said. With that, the five girls left.
"That’ll be $14.99," the clerk at the drugstore said. Sara
laid down the money, the clerk gave her her purchases, and the group left
the store.
"Where are we going next?" Shisou, who thought that the whole
occasion was very exciting, asked.
"Grocery store," Sara said, after looking at the shopping list
her mom had written out for them.
"What’s that?" Shisou asked.
"A place where people get food and things," Marie explained.
"Why do we have to go to the boring grocery store?" Chrysta whined.
They had only been out for ten minutes and already she was tired.
"Because, that’s where Mom needs us to get the groceries," Sara
said.
Chrysta pouted. "I want to go to the toy store."
"We can go there later, okay, Chrys?" Dani said.
"No," Chrysta stopped walking and sat on a nearby bench.
"I want to go now."
"But, Chrysta," Sara tried to reason with her. "We need
to go to the grocery store first, all right? Then the toy store."
"I’m tired," Chrysta muttered, lying on the bench.
Marie knelt by the bench and faced Chrysta. "Once we get
to the grocery store, you can sit in the shopping cart and we’ll drive
you around the store while we pick up our things, all right?"
"Don’t want to," Chrysta shook her head and sat up.
"Look, Chrysta," Sara was exasperated, "We’ve got to go.
You’re slowing us down. Can we please, *please* go now?"
Chrysta stood up on the bench she was sitting on and shrieked,
"BUT I WANT TO GO TO THE TOY STORE NOW!"
After thinking for a while, Shisou had an idea. "Chrysta,"
she said, leaning over so she was eye-to-eye with the girl. "I’ll
carry you the rest of the way to the store if you are tired, then you can
ride in the shopping cart, then we will go to the toy store. Is that
all right?"
Chrysta grinned. "Sure!"
Shisou knelt down beside the bench. "Here, get on."
Chrysta climbed onto her back with her arms around Shisou’s neck.
Sara was dumbfounded.
"How did you know how to do that, Shisou?" Sara asked.
Shisou shrugged. "I have had a lot of experience with kids
at the orphanage in Japan."
"So you’re an orphan?" Dani asked as the group continued along
the street.
"Yes," Shisou replied. "The people there helped me find
my only living relative: my cousin, Mamoru Chiba, who is about my age.
We’re really close."
"So why didn’t he come with you when you came to college here?"
Marie asked.
"He wanted to stay with his girlfriend," Shisou said.
"Oh…" Marie replied, nodding.
"Hey!" Chrysta shouted suddenly, pointing up ahead. "Look
guys, a cave!"
"Where?" Sara asked.
"Up there!" Chrysta replied, pointing to a rocky hill up ahead.
Sure enough, in the midst of the rocks on the hill, there was what appeared
to be an opening of a cave.
"Cool," Dani said.
"Let’s go check it out!" Chrysta cried excitedly. "Can
we, Sara?"
"I guess so," Sara replied. "But not for too long, because
we have to go to the grocery store."
"We won’t take too long," Chrysta said. The four girls
(with Chrysta on Shisou’s back) climbed up the hill to the cave and went
inside.
"Neat," Sara commented, wandering around in the cave.
"Dark," Chrysta said. "And cold," she added, shivering.
The girls could hear a crashing sound, followed by an, "Ouch!"
Upon hearing this, Dani looked up, startled.
"What’s that?"
"It was just me," Shisou said. "I think I tripped over
something."
Chrysta jumped off of Shisou. "Are you okay, Shisou?"
"Yes," Shisou answered, standing up.
"I’m getting out of here," Marie said. "Somehow, I get
the feeling something’s going to happen if we stay in here too long.
Something bad." She started for the mouth of the cave, and was startled
to see a man dressed in green floating in front of the entrance.
His hair was straight, medium-long, and light green, and he was wearing
an outfit similar to the one that Xenos had worn, except his was light
green.
"Something bad is about to happen, to you anyway," the man said,
smirking. "I am Tantalus, of the Periodics. And I do believe
that one of you," he indicated the rest of the girls in the cave, "has
the Dead Crystal."
Dani reached for her transformation pen, but Shisou stopped her.
"We shouldn’t transform in front of him," she said. "If he is truly
a Periodic, we can not let him know who we are."
"Right," Dani nodded.
Tantalus held out his hand to the girls, as if making a gesture
of peace, but really peace was the last thing he was concerned about.
"Tantalum Envy Temptation!" he yelled. "Now they’ll be so distracted
they won’t even notice that I’m taking their heart crystals!"
A green light spread over them, and the girls suddenly felt different.
Tantalus’s spell had caused them all to become insanely jealous of each
other, so much so that they began to attack each other recklessly.
Dani was beating up on Sara, Marie and Chrysta were throwing rocks at each
other, and there was total chaos. To everyone, that is, except for
Shisou.
"What’s going on?" Tantalus asked. "Why didn’t the spell affect
this girl?"
Shisou was just as confused as he was. "Why is everyone fighting?"
Tantalus tried to take the heart crystals of the arguing girls, but
they were so involved in the arguments they were having that he couldn’t
reach them. "Darn!" he muttered. "I can’t get the crystals.
Oh well, I give up. This is futile anyway." Then he left the
cave as quickly as he had appeared, leaving behind him four girls arguing
like lunatics and a very confused Shisou.
"What happened here?" Shisou asked. She went up to the fighting
girls and tried to separate them. "Marie! Chrysta!" Shisou
stood between Marie and Chrysta, but Marie threw a rock at her. "Why
are you fighting like this?" She went up to Dani and Sara, who were
still throwing random punches at each other. She tried to break them
up, but they shoved her out of the way.
"Sailor Spica could probably fix this mess," Shisou thought aloud.
Remembering what Pandora had taught her about telepathy, she concentrated
on contacting Shiloe…
While the incident in the cave was taking place, Shiloe was working
on her computer. Suddenly, she heard a voice in her mind saying,
<Shiloe, can you hear me? It’s Shisou, and I need help!>
Shiloe nearly jumped out of her chair, but then she realized
that it was just Shisou trying to contact her through telepathy.
Once she had recovered, she replied to Shisou’s call for help. Shisou
told her the situation, and she promised Shisou that she’d be there to
help soon. She got up and ran out of her room, grabbing her transformation
pen as she left.
"When is Sailor Spica going to get here?" Shisou thought.
"I have tried to separate them, but it won’t work. What is going
on?" Just then, she heard a noise that sounded like rocks sliding
down the hill. "Someone’s coming!" Shisou raced out of the
cave and looked down the hill. She saw Sailor Spica, fully transformed,
scrambling up the hill as quickly as she possibly could.
"Am I too late?" Spica asked, once she had gotten to the cave.
"No, just in time," Shisou said. "Can you fix this?"
"Sure can!" Spica replied confidently. "Purity Healing,"
she said. The others were healed, and they woke up from the spell,
confused and with no memory of what had happened.
"Hey, where am I?" Sara asked. She had woken up to find
herself being pinned against the wall by Dani.
"Yeah," Dani replied, letting go of Sara. "I feel like
I’ve just had a really long nap…and exactly why did I have Sara in a headlock?"
