STORY
BEHIND THE POEM DOUG AND THE DEER
.
Doug Lepard was brand new on the job.
He was dispatched to a call one day and was on his way. Now in a big city
like Vancouver, one would not expect to have to deal with livestock or
wild animals on the roadways. However, this is not necessarily true as
we have had reports of coyotes, racoons, skunks, squirrels, geese, deer,
moose, bears and even on one occasion a tiger

.
On this morning, a bright
sunny day, Doug was on his way to a call when suddenly a deer bounded into
his path and Doug hit it. Doug was fine, but the car and the deer didn’t
fare too well. Of course Doug got a lot of teasing about it. Comments like
"brings new meaning to car hunting", "most people just say a big black
dog", "hey Doug, you can bring it to the barbecue tonight".
.
Well with all that teasing,
I couldn’t resist writing the poem.
