The Rookie
.
It started on one quiet night, out in District Three,
The Squad decided it was time, to "get" young Richard Lee.
Their assignment in a parking lot, stopping theft from cars,
If they did it properly, they both would become stars.
.
They sat up in their hiding place, cameras focused on the lot,
Soon they saw the target car, where the perps would soon be caught.
From the shadows came the crook, dark clothing and black hood,
Rich directing units in, they would have this guy but good.
.
He's got a slim-jim, near that car, the one right there in back,
Have the units moving in, the dog get set to track.
Rob Clark moved up carefully, with Rich providing eyes,
The crook jumped up behind poor Rob, and caught him by surprise.
.
With baseball bat he laid Rob out, Rich was greatly shocked,
To see a squad-mate lying there, having been cold cocked.
He ran down several flights of stairs, on his radio he screamed,
For ambulance and cover cars, things had gone to hell it seemed.
.
He got within a half a block, the crook began to run,
Rich Lee chasing after him, soon to have some fun.
Sometimes our eyes deceive us, and here it was the case,
As they ran around the corner, to end their little chase.
.
The "crook" was a policeman, John Rennie is his name,
The whole squad there applauding, The Rookie's new found fame.
Just remember next time, the plight of Richard Lee,
You can't believe in everything, just because it's on T.V.
