Community Policing
.
Just when I think I've seen it all, there
is always a surprise,
The call we got to deal with here, really
opened up my eyes.
It started with a phone call, made into
nine-one-one,
A child was asking for some help, that
got us on the run.
.
The call was not completed, but screaming
could be heard,
We thought the worst as usual, had only
just occurred.
Responding quickly to the scene, to help
the children there,
Two units were now on the way, bad guys
best beware.
.
We got inside the building, and looked
for the victim's place,
If someone was in danger, we had to win
this race.
Granny answered to our knock, the police
she had to see,
Mandy Scorrar and myself, and a nurse
who made us three.
.
We wondered what the trouble was, that
brought us here so fast,
Everything looked peaceful, was the trouble
in the past?
Then Granny told her story, the kids were
nine and seven,
Both were up and still awake, at quarter
past eleven.
.
She did not know just what to do, and
got it in her head,
To call police to help her, tuck the children
into bed.
Despite our clear frustration, we really
showed some tact,
Even while we spoke to Granny, and read
the riot act.
.
Community policing, the finest do our
best,
Creative problem solving, really puts
us to the test.
This may be stretching, just a touch,
but maybe it is fitting,
Of having cops come to the house, to do
the baby-sitting.
