Ain’t Technology Grand?
.
Not so very long ago, our pay stubs
were quite clear,
One half a page of printing, pay codes
on the rear.
Now it numbers, one to three, budgets
can’t be planned,
Everything is mixed around, ain’t
technology grand?
.
Overtime you worked last June, may
or not be there,
Stat holidays from months ago, don’t
show up anywhere.
Deductions from your salary, are always
close at hand,
Government still steals their share,
ain’t technology grand?
.
Seven hundred thousand bucks, is what
it would have cost,
Upgrading our old system, so nothing
would be lost.
Twenty Million for the new one, the
dollars flow like sand,
No one who understands it, ain’t technology
grand?
.
Some guys did not get their pay, others
got paid twice,
Guess that’s why they changed the
name, to the current "pay advice".
Advice we need, to read these things,
to know just where we stand,
What a crazy, mixed up system, ain’t
technology grand?
.
Routine and automatic, is how we once
were paid,
Paydays now adventures, to decide
how much we made.
Computers can be wonderful, but then
on the other hand,
Minor errors get compounded, ain’t
technology grand?
.
All this ‘cause of Y2K, I’m glad I
won’t be here,
To see the set of problems, in our
Three Thousandth year.
Now this little poem is done, I sit
more puzzled, and,
I ask once more the question, ain’t
technology grand?
