STORY BEHIND THE POEM FUNK N HYDE
.
It was a typical Thursday night in District 2.  Jason Funk, just 2 days graduated from the Academy, was paired up with Emma Hyde.  Emma, while more senior than Jason, only has a few years on the job herself.  Her regular partner was off injured, and Jason, like all new people needs to start out with someone who knows the “ropes”.
.
They responded to a call of a drunk on Wall Street, and arrived to find this wonderful, drunken, “princess”, kicking on the balcony door of her apartment to get in.  I guess her drunken boyfriend had gotten tired of the abuse she was screaming, and locked her outside.
.
Once the erstwhile pair of Emma and Jason arrived, the screaming and obscenities escalated to new levels of volume.  Emma and Jason ended up having to wrestle her to the ground and handcuff her to keep her from hurting herself.  About this time, things went crazy on the radio.  Knowing it was going to be a lengthy wait for transport, they finally convinced her to quiet down, and her boyfriend to let her in.
.
Just before leaving, Emma, removed the handcuffs and tucked the woman’s keys into her pants pocket.  Free of this wonderful lady, they left and headed off to the next call.
.
When our shift ended at 2:30 AM, we all went back to the office, relieved that another busy shift was done.  Imagine, Emma’s dismay, when she discovered that the key ring that she stuffed in the drunk’s pocket, was her own set of keys.  It had her car key, house key, locker key, handcuff key and building key on it.
.
Knowing they would probably have another fight on their hands, Emma and Jason headed back out to retrieve her keys, thinking that the rest of us were on our way home.  Such was not the case though, things went absolutely crazy with a double shooting in a downtown nightclub and we were all called back out on the road to work overtime until 6 AM.
.
The happy note is that Emma, successfully retrieved her keys, and without a battle too.
