Little Stevie

.

There we were in District Two, a would be killer to be caught,

The stakeout was all set to go, his address we had got.

Steve Shaw was in position, his recruit right by his side,

All was set for show-time, to jail the crook would ride.

.

When suddenly his pager went, to his home he had to call,

Who knew what crisis had occurred,   did his kid just take a fall?

The call was made, the stakeout paused, Steve was looking glum,

No problem was the answer, it was a phone call from his Mom.

.

Gayle was on a visit, from “Da Rock” from way back East,

She was checking to make sure that, his health was good at least.

It seems he had a headache, at home there just last night,

She knew that Steve, her little boy, was just not feeling right.

.

So the stakeout paused some more, while Little Steve explained,

“Mom, I just can’t talk right now”, “I must not be detained”.

His frantic gaze was searching, the house for signs of life,

He hoped the wanted suspect, did not come out with a knife.

.

No joy in Mudville on this day, it seems we had struck out,

The suspect was not even home, he was wandering about.

Of course the ribbing started, when Little Steve hung up,

We wondered if he had waiting, chicken soup, warm in a cup.

.

Sergeant Wood, please send Steve home, he needs a Mommy’s care,

We’re sure that he will bring a note, I mean, that’s only fair.

But frankly you have been outranked, it shouldn’t be a bother,

Never try and win a fight, with “Little Stevie’s ” Mother.
