Hot News

.

At GiGi’s Pizza Restaurant, the boys were on a break,

Some dinner, and to read the news, a sixty-two to take.

Stephen Todd and Jason Gibbons, both partners on the beat,

Were sitting down, relaxing, waiting for a bite to eat.

.

The paper was unfolded, and the reading had begun,

First they read the comics, which preceded all the fun.

The waitress took their orders, their water set to drink,

Guessing what would happen next, is impossible, I think.

.

An article of interest, had captured Stephen’s eye,

He leaned forward on the paper, to read about the guy.

Boy, it’s really hot in here, the thought had crossed his mind,

The waitress came for refills, and was standing there behind.

.

What she noticed right away, as she squealed out in alarm,

Neither partner had observed, what was under Stephen’s arm.

She took her jug of ice water, and dumped it in his lap,

The shock it was immediate, and started quite a flap.

.

Seems the news was very hot, as his paper burst in flame,

A candle sat beneath it, and ignited this whole game.

Now Stephen sits there soaking wet, his paper sodden ash,

And tomorrow’s headline, could be him, making quite a splash.

.

I guess this is a lesson, and brings new meaning to that line,

Both escaping quite unharmed, and all were doing fine,

But both must feel quite nervous, if the statement you express,

Read the paper every day, and get it “hot, right off the press”.
