Dave Lawson worked his way to a good lead but broke a panhard rod in the front (just visible on the picture) and couldn't keep his car steered straight.
He retired to the infield. At least he made the race. 1NZ Bryce Townsend never got out of the pits for the Champion of Champions feature. The car had picked up a vibration so the crew changed some of the driveline. The vibrations stayed so the the car was parked keeping the engine whole but finished for the season.
Wanganui visitor Chris Bagrie (68V) came out of the pits for the feature but his dismal season was climaxed when the car never fired , maybe because of sheared fuel pump drive.
